It is that time of year when lots of crazy ideas get floated.
The biggest thing for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason continues to be trying to figure out where Tony Romo is going to wind up. And on Friday, these tweets stirred the pot to a roiling boil.
As #Commanders & #49ers discuss a potential deal for QB Kirk Cousins in the near future, I’m told they may include the #Cowboys (Romo) as well

Play a potential and unprecedented three-way deal forward… #49ers inquire about Cousins. #Commanders talk about Tony Romo. #Cowboys get picks.

The thought of Romo going to play for Washington is not a happy one for Cowboys fans. He would be an upgrade over Cousins, and clearly would know far too much about how Dallas plays. And it is believed new 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan covets Cousins, so there is a certain hint of things that would make this something at least two of the teams might be interested in.
But take a deep breath. This is the time of year when all kinds of rumors surface, often with no more real basis than agents trying to get some more money for their clients (and of course for themselves). This one was quickly countered by several credible writers, both locally and nationally.
High ranking Cowboys official says they have not been contacted regarding a three-way deal with that have Tony Romo ending up in Washington.

The involved parties are trying to stir up interest in a Romo trade, as has been the case for a week. https://t.co/ilTm77gO1o

If you think Jerry Jones will trade Tony Romo to the Washington Commanders you outside your mind, as the old folks used to say..Come on man

I don’t want to make any rash statements about who is believable here and who sort of looks like he is just trying for clicks. The tweets say enough about that.
There will no doubt be lots more of this in the days and weeks ahead. so remember to keep those grains of salt handy as you see things popping up in the various media. But remember, even obviously unsubstantiated rumors have some potential benefit.
The Cowboys would love to work out a trade for Romo. So if this rumor stars the machine that would cause Denver or Houston to bite, they win
