The Cowboys will go up against of the elite defenders in football on Sunday.

Cowboys. Eagles. Sunday Night Football. Prime time television. Winner goes to first place in the NFC East.

As we all know, this game is huge. The Cowboys desperately need to get things back on track after dropping the last three games. The offense needs to remember that there is a first half, while the defense needs to prove it is better than what it has shown thus far this season.

Doug Pederson voiced confidence in his team earlier this week, while DeMarcus Lawrence later said that the Eagles coach will not be the one playing on the field. There is a lot of bad blood between these two fierce rivals and both squads will be out to prove that they are the team to beat in the division.

One player that the Dallas Cowboys need to prevent from controlling the line of scrimmage, and therefore the game, is All-Pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox.

Cox is one of the elite defenders in all of football. He has the unique ability to not only clog up the run, but also get after the passer as good as anybody — if not better — at the position. With the Cowboys struggling at offensive line, Cox has the ability to make life hard for Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott on Sunday evening.

So far this season, the Mississippi State product has made 16 tackles and will look to stop Elliott from getting anything going on the ground this weekend. When asked about Zeke, Cox said that the Eagles “gotta tackle” and that stopping Elliott “will be challenging”.

“He’s a good player,” defensive tackle Fletcher Cox said. “I know one thing’s for sure, we gotta tackle. We gotta get him on the ground. He makes really good decisions when he’s hitting the hole, when he’s running the football and finding guys out of their gaps. He does a real good job of that. Respectfully, he’s not going to do it by himself. He’s got a really good group in front of him, a group of offensive linemen he’s been with for a while. It’s going to be challenging.”

A banged up offensive line is not ideal when going up against Cox and one of the elite run defenses in the National Football League, so implementing a heavy dose of play-action to catch the Eagles off-guard would be smart.

After all, the Vikings had a lot of success versus the Eagles doing just that last week (hint, hint: Kellen Moore).

Fletcher Cox is a special player that can take over on any given Sunday, so the Cowboys must be prepared to do whatever they can to take the elite defensive tackle out of the game.
