The Cowboys continue to win, reach 6-1 on the season.
The Dallas Cowboys have now won six straight games with a 31-21 victory over the New York Giants. This was the Cowboys first matchup within the NFC East and they came away with a hard-fought win over the Giants at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys won following a familiar formula in 2014, hard running from DeMarco Murray, consistent play from Dez Bryant, quality work from Tony Romo in the passing game, and a sprinkling of big plays from some unheralded players. Throw in a rejuvenated defense that continues to be a surprise and the Cowboys have basically beat their opposition into submission.
DeMarco Murray made history in the game as he became the first running back in NFL history to run for 100 yards in each of the first seven games to start a season. Murray ended the day with 28 carries for 128 yards and one touchdown. The Cowboys were able to run the ball even though the Giants were stacking the line of scrimmage, determined to slow down the Dallas rushing attack. This left the Giants secondary in the position of a lot of one on one coverage, something that Tony Romo and Dez Bryant were able to take advantage of throughout the game. Romo finished with 17 completions on 23 attempts for 279 yards and three touchdowns. Bryant caught nine passes for 151 yards and was held a half-yard short of a touchdown on one play.
Gavin Escobar continues with his emergence, catching two touchdowns in this game after catching one last week. Terrance Williams only had one catch but that was for a touchdown. The Cowboys defense also deserves praise as they held the Giants running game in check for most of the day and limited them to only 21 points. They also created a huge play when Barry Church stripped the ball from a Giants receiver and Justin Durant recovered the ball. This set the Cowboys up with a short field and the offense capitalized which gave the Cowboys a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Dallas is now 6-1 and showing a resolve and toughness absent in previous years. This team is physical and tenacious. It's now a pleasure to watch them from week to week.
