News: BTB: Cowboys vs. Giants: The Giants Offensive Line Is A Problem

We touch base with a Giants blog for some insider knowledge.

The Dallas Cowboys welcome their longtime rivals, the New York Giants, for a good ol’ NFC East clash to start the 2016 season. As usual, we like to talk to the enemy to find out what their thinking about the game. So below you’ll find five questions and five answers with SB Nation Giants blog Big Blue View.

Blogging The Boys: Eli Manning is the mainstay for the Giants, what are your thoughts on him heading into season? Anything new or different, or pretty much the same ol' Eli?

Big Blue View: Basically, same 'ol Eli. He is more efficient than he used to be because he plays in a more rhythm-based offense now with quicker throws and more well-defined pass routes that have fewer options. You know what he is at this point -- there are times when he can beat you, and there is invariably a game here and there where he beats the Giants. I'm optimistic that he still has a few years of quality football in front of him.

BTB: How are things different under head coach Ben McAdoo? Good move, bad move, too early to tell?

BBV: There are a number of differences -- the way the Giants practice, the offseason program among them. McAdoo has handled the job well thus far and I believe he has a long future as an NFL head coach. He has been unafraid to do things his way. Of course, we'll see what the won-loss record says.

BTB: The Giants offensive line, is it a big problem, a little problem, or no problem?

BBV: Oh, it's a problem. I'm not sure it's as devastating a problem as some ledge-jumping fans want to believe, but it's a problem. Specifically, offensive tackles Ereck Flowers and Marshall Newhouse are question marks. Will Flowers improve over an awful rookie year? How long before Will Beatty is in good enough shape to take over for Newhouse? Still, I keep reminding people that the Giants had one of the best offenses in the league last season with this same offensive line.

BTB: The Giants spent a ton of money in the offseason upgrading their defense. What are the results so far, what can we expect in the first game?

BBV: This defense has far more talent than the helpless group the Giants fielded last year. Olivier Vernon, Snacks Harrison, JPP, Janoris Jenkins, rookies Eli Apple and Darian Thompson in the secondary. This starting defensive front has been tremendous in its limited preseason snaps. I am very much looking forward to seeing how that group does against the vaunted Dallas offensive line. It should be a heckuva battle.

BTB: Talk about your draft picks. Do you consider it a successful draft? Which players from the draft will make the biggest impact?

BBV: This looks like it could, down the line, be one of the better drafts of Jerry Reese's tenure as GM. And both he and the Giants needed it after four straight playoff-less seasons. Wide receiver Sterling Shepard, the second-round pick, has future star written all over him. Third-round pick Darian Thompson has been the starting free safety since the second he stepped on the field, and he deserves it. He has a shoulder injury that may limit him Sunday. First-round pick Eli Apple wasn't the guy anyone expected the Giants to select, but he also looks like a good player. With Jenkins and DRC, he may not play every down. He may also struggle at times, since rookie corners always do. This guy, though, could be the best corner the Giants have as early as 2017.
