We've reached the last game of the preseason, the one that is the hardest to watch, but the one that is most-anticipated. Wait, what? How can this be the most-anticipated preseason game? Precisely because it's the last one, after this, stuff gets real. So it is that the Dallas Cowboys will host the Houston Texans to close out the 2015 preseason.

The fourth game of the preseason means hardly any starters play, if any at all. Given Jason Garrett's reluctance to play his guys except in the dress rehearsal, we can guess that will mean a load of second-, third-, and fourth-stringers getting plenty of playing time. So you can expect some healthy doses of poor football by NFL standards. But, there are some puzzles the Cowboys are still trying to solve.

Is Lucky Whitehead the man as the fifth receiver and as the punt returner? Probably, but a nice game on Thursday night would help cement the deal. What about the backup QBs? Brandon Weeden is in as the number two guy, but can either Dustin Vaughan or Jameill Showers do anything to force Dallas to hold on to three QBs? Probably not, but maybe Showers' work on special teams, where he's actually produced, could force a decision.

Other battles include the final spots along the defensive line, with guys like Davon Coleman, Ken Bishop, Ben Gardner, and LaVar Edwards trying to nail down a roster spot. Don't forget the showdown for the tight end position between veteran James Hanna and rookie Geoff Swaim.

That's a taste of some of the things on the line in Thursday's game. So while in the overall perspective it might seem meaningless, for hundreds of guys at the bottom of NFL rosters, this game could be everything.
