It's just about time for the Dallas Cowboys to perform their dress rehearsal. On Saturday night, the Cowboys will host the Minnesota Vikings in a preseason game at AT&T Stadium. The third preseason game is the traditional one where teams finally put all their healthy starters on the field to get a little bit of game action. Just how far will Jason Garrett go with that idea? It's hard to say, Garrett is notoriously tight-lipped about that stuff, keeping all of his options open until the final minute. Will he put all of his offensive line (except Zack Martin) out there for an extended look? If so, will Tony Romo, Jason Witten also get out there along with the running backs and finally show some semblance of the Cowboys real offense? And will the Cowboys risk putting Dez Bryant on the field so soon after returning to practice from a hamstring issue?
Nobody knows the answers for sure, but the smart money is that the Cowboys will play everybody who has been able to practice, with the possible exception of Dez Bryant. But even he might get a little time. The Cowboys will want to get their top unit of starters at least a couple of drives of real action before packing it in and waiting for the opening game against the New York Giants.
On defense, we should finally get a look at some veterans who have been sitting out. Sean Lee is slated to see his first game action in a long, long time. Tyrone Crawford should get some reps, and in an even more important preseason debut, Morris Claiborne is expected to play. With the recent loss of Orlando Scandrick, Claiborne's play is under the microscope even more than it would have been.
The Cowboys have looked ragged in the preseason, but that is largely a result of Garrett being extra cautious with his injured players and his veterans. This game should give us a little different look. While not at full strength, the unit on the field that starts Saturday night's game will finally give us a glimpse of what 2015 could look like.
