Despite the cuts, reports do not indicate that Brandon Boykin is being considered to replace one of them.
The OTAs are done for the Dallas Cowboys, and the roster churn is continuing. With the minicamp still coming next week, the team has released a couple of cornerbacks, one of them a bit of a surprise to most.
Cowboys just announced they've released Terrance Mitchell. Also waived/injured CB Brandon McGee.

Terrance Mitchell flashed some good things at the end of last season, getting one of only two interceptions by a cornerback for the entire year. But he apparently was not showing sufficient progress for the staff. There were reports of him being tried at safety. At first, this was seen as a positive for him, but that may have been a misreading of the situation.
I recently wrote about #cowboys trying Mitchell at S.
Didn't look good there. Not impressive thus far at CB, either to coaches.
Cut.

The announcement of the release of the two cornerbacks brought the recent visit to Dallas of Brandon Boykin to mind, but he is reportedly still not in the plans for the Cowboys.
ALERT: #Cowboys source tells me CB Mitchell release does NOT indicate Boykin signing. NO on Boykin. @1053thefan

Prior to the release of Mitchell and McGee, the Cowboys were carrying nine corners on the roster, so this may partly be a decision that they were a bit overstocked there. It also is a positive sign for sixth round pick Anthony Brown. UDFA Jeremiah McKinnion has also been mentioned as having had some good days during the OTAs, and the team still has second year corner Deji Olatoye, veteran Josh Thomas, and UDFA Arjen Colquhoun. All are competing for backup spots behind the top trio of Orlando Scandrick, Brandon Carr, and Morris Claiborne. Mitchell’s failure to pan out as a safety also boosts the chances of sixth round pick Kavon Frazier and UDFA Rolan Milligan.
The team now has two vacancies to fill, and at least one of them will probably be a defensive back.
