The Cowboys need help along the defensive line, maybe Randy Gregory can help.
The Cowboys are banged up along the defensive line, but they may get some help at the position with the return of Randy Gregory. Jason Garrett said they expect Gregory to practice today; he will do individual drills and they will evaluate how well he does after that. Coach said that Gregory is excited and champing at the bit. His teammates are sure excited to see him.
“Oh, man, he’s been looking real good,” defensive end Tyrone Crawford said. “He’s looking real fast and definitely excited to get him out there against a team [the Detroit Lions on Monday night] that I feel he’ll actually rush good against. I’m excited, man.

“He’s a beast. Randy is a beast,” defensive end David Irving said. “Heck, we could use him on the edge, so I’m excited to see my boy come back.”
Of course, there are questions surrounding Gregory and how much he can contribute. He hasn’t played a snap of football since the end of the 2015 season and he hasn’t been able to practice in a while. Even when he did play last year, he wasn’t exactly lighting it up. On the other hand, he has tremendous natural talent and great speed, something the Cowboys are missing in their edge rushers. If he can produce even a little, it would certainly bolster a pass rush that is getting better and better as the season progresses.
And they could use his help right now. Injuries are starting to hit the position hard. DeMarcus Lawrence was unavailable last week and will not practice today according to Coach Garrett. His back is a problem and Garrett would not answer a question about how serious of a problem it could be going forward. Tyrone Crawford is also hurting with knee and shoulder injuries and the Cowboys don’t expect him to practice today. Benson Mayowa had an MRI but Garrett expects that he will be able to practice today. There was no update on Cedric Thornton but that’s another injury to watch along the defensive line. Gregory is certainly needed with that unit getting banged up.
Morris Claiborne will not practice today and they still don’t have any idea on his return. J.J. Wilcox should be able to practice today and maybe can be ready to go this week.
