The Cowboys are reportedly making a move and adding to their running back stable.

Multiple sources are reporting that the Dallas Cowboys will sign veteran running back Ronnie Hillman. The Cowboys are in their first week of training camp and will play their first preseason game in a week.

Hillman played four years with the Denver Broncos and had a nice 2015 season when he started 11 games, ran for 863 yards, plus he caught 24 passes for 111 yards. After initially re-signing with Denver, he was released prior to the 2016 season. He split time last year between the Vikings and the Chargers, but never found significant playing time with either.

Signing Hillman could indicate a couple of things for the Cowboys. One would be they are pretty sure Ezekiel Elliott is going to be suspended and they want another veteran running back for depth purposes during that time. The Cowboys rely on their running game and want to make sure they have quality depth at the position at all times.

They could also be evaluating Hillman against veteran Alfred Morris for a season-long run. The Cowboys at one point let it be known they would trade Morris, and they could also cut him with very little cap impact. Morris seem to really fall out of favor at the end of last year to the point of becoming an afterthought in the offense.
