The Cowboys backup QB spot over the past week has seen some changes.
The Dallas Cowboys are looking at possibly adding another quarterback to their offseason roster. Today they will be working out former New York Giants backup QB Ryan Nassib. Just recently, the Cowboys released Austin Appleby and signed Zac Dysert. They also have UDFA Cooper Rush available. Of course Dak Prescott is the starter, but the question becomes are the Cowboys satisfied with Kellen Moore as the entrenched number two QB, or are they trying to create a serious competition at that spot?
Nassib spent the past four years with the Giants backing up Eli Manning and only saw limited playing time. Like the recently added Dysert, he is a player who has been in the NFL for a few years but has never really seen much action. Instead of going the aged veteran route, the Cowboys look to be using a strategy centered around developing a young veteran who has spent time on 53-man rosters.
We’ll have to see if any of these guys can challenge Moore for the backup spot, if they actually go ahead and sign Nassib.
Dallas is also working out two safeties and a wide receiver. Jeron Johnson and Duke Williams are the safeties the Cowboys will take a look at. Johnson played a few years with the Seattle Seahawks and a year with Washington, but has only a couple of actual starts. Likewise Williams has played with a couple of teams but has 10 starts on his resume’.
The wide receiver is Lance Lenoir who is an undrafted rookie out of Western Illinois.
