One missed flight might have changed the quarterback fortunes of two franchises.
As the Dallas Cowboys prepare to take on the Denver Broncos in Colorado this weekend, one interesting story came up in the news. While talking with the media on Wednesday, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott mentioned how him missing a flight from Orlando to Denver may have prevented the former Mississippi State star from landing with the Super Bowl L champions.
Dak explained that he was training in Orlando and was planning on flying out to meet with the Broncos that day. However, the star quarterback arrived at the airport late. He missed his original flight out to Denver, but he says he still visited with the team later that night.
“I didn’t make it to the gate, the door shut and I had to wait. I got there later that night, but I missed the initial dinner,” he said. “I still had the visit, but I’m sure the quarterback not making the flight doesn’t look too good.”

This is not only interesting because it’s Dak talking about his draft process with another team, but also because it is well known just how badly Jerry Jones wanted to trade up for current Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch. Jones, now infamously, said that he “regretted” not moving up in the draft to select the Memphis quarterback.
"When I look back on my life, I overpaid for my big successes every time," Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "And when I tried to get a bargain, get it a little cheaper or get a better deal on it, I ended up usually either getting it and not happy I got it. Or missing it.
"And I probably should have overpaid here."
Jones said Friday he was still stewing about not snagging Lynch.
"I was still mad about it," Jones said. "Actually thought we had it done."
The Cowboys holding still and not trading picks away has paid dividends. The Cowboys likely would have given up at least two of the selections that were used to pick Jaylon Smith in the second-round, Maliek Collins in the third, Charles Tapper in the fourth and then, of course, Dak Prescott at 135. Because the Dallas Cowboys stayed put, the franchise now has their face of the franchise for the foreseeable future, a stud linebacker that is nowhere close to his ceiling, one promising defensive lineman that will be major piece on the defense for years to come, and one defensive lineman that has potential.
At one time, the Dallas Cowboys were intrigued by Paxton Lynch, and the Denver Broncos were fascinated with Dak. Now, Dak Prescott is the unquestioned leader of America’s Team, while Lynch is alongside Brock Osweiler behind Trevor Siemian in Mile High.
Dak leads the Cowboys into Denver for a huge match up against the Broncos on Sunday afternoon. It will be interesting to see how he performs against one of the elite defenses across the National Football League and the franchise that he may have ended up with had he been on time for his flight.
