We're but a few weeks away from the 2015 NFL Draft, it wouldn't be draft season without a multitude of mocks floating around the internet. Here's one more.
The excitement is filling the air as we get closer to the NFL's biggest event besides the Super Bowl. Hundreds of prospects will assume their fate and many more will begin their careers. Today we have the fourth addition of my mock draft available to you.
As a brief reminder, the board I trust is the CBS version put together by Dane Brugler and Rob Rang. Both of these guys have done a great job with their analysis and constant revisions to their product. The Cowboys having set themselves up nicely throughout free agency, will have endless possibilities in the draft to continue fortifying their forces for 2015. Without further adieu, here is how it all went down.
With the 27th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
Defensive End Owamagbe Odighizuwa, UCLA
Analysis: Even with the addition of Greg Hardy coupled with second year breakout candidate DeMarcus Lawrence and veteran Jeremy Mincey; the Cowboys still need capable pass rushers. Odighizuwa is one of the better options throughout the draft. He's got long arms, speed and proven skill to take quarterbacks down. After Dallas managed a putrid 28 sacks in 2014, they must rectify the situation in 2015 to further their success. As the Cowboys have done with their offensive line, they must continue the trend to rebuild their defensive front. With the impending suspension to Greg Hardy forthcoming and his short-term lease, this allows the Cowboys to have options for the future.
With the 60th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
Cornerback Eric Rowe, Utah
Analysis: Dallas has a mess-load of questions surrounding their secondary situation. Brandon Carr came on strong towards the end of 2014, but will likely be asked to take a reduced salary in 2015. If he refuses, he could be designated a post June 1st cut and save the Cowboys roughly $8 million. Though it's more likely he accepts the reduced pay, despite what his agent has said, the Cowboys still need help on the back end. Eric Rowe is one of my favorite prospects in the draft next to fellow corner Byron Jones. Rowe is long, athletic, rangy and physical. All things that Marinelli loves to have in his defenders. Rowe also has the versatility to slide over to free safety, and did I mention he can tackle? Give me Eric Rowe in the second and there's two straight contributors for 2015.
With the 91st pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
Running-back Jeremy Langford, Michigan State
Analysis: DeMarco Murray's defection left a nice hole in the backfield to fill. I agree with the notion that running-backs are not to be valued very highly, but the Cowboys identity rests on their ability to have a dominating rushing attack. In my opinion once Gurley and Gordon we're taken, it allowed for the Cowboys to wait and take someone in the third. Even with the signing of Darren McFadden, the Cowboys are certainly not betting on him according to the $200k signing bonus he was given. The Cowboys need a bell-cow, Jeremy Langford can fit that role in my opinion. Where most rookie backs struggle such as pass protection and the catching passes out of the backfield, Langford succeeds. Brugler describes him as a "workhorse, no-nonsense type of player." I'll take that any day of the week and especially in the third round. A great value pick for the Cowboys.
With the 127th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
Wide-receiver Chris Conley, Georgia
Analysis: The Cowboys need a receiver that take the top off a defense and can return kicks on special teams. Conley can do both and extremely well. With the loss of Dwayne Harris to the rival Giants, the Cowboys will need to supplement that production. Where Conley can supersede that notion is with his proven ability as a receiver. He's got great leadership qualities and placed third in the SEC with YPC at 18.2. Conley always finds new ways to get open and though he may need work with routes, Coach Dooley will take this type of player with ease. He's a high quality character with ambitions outside of football. If you can run a 4.3 40 time, I believe they can find a spot for him; did I mention he's planned a visit with them as well? Like Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams and Devin Street before him, visits can certainly tell a lot about their feelings toward a guy.
With the 163rd pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
Defensive tackle Xavier Williams, Northern Iowa
Analysis: Though the Dallas Cowboys haven't put a premium on defensive tackles, they still have a lot of unknown commodities in that area. Marinelli has shown that he prefers all of his "rushmen" to be able to get up the field. This offseason will show that they're willing to throw numbers at the problem and see which one sticks. After releasing Amobi Okoye, Xavier Williams can be more than just another hopeful. He's only 6'2 but weighs over 320 pounds, with that said he can get up the field and take on doubles. I love his can-do relentless attitude to self-motivate himself on every play. Brugler and Rang say that Williams' has that "killer-instinct to continuously pursue and finish the ball-carrier." I think he fits the mold of a Marinelli guy wholeheartedly who gets the dirty work done. Williams looks to be a productive and possible outstanding value pick for Dallas.
With the 236th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
Safety Kyshoen Jarrett, Virginia Tech
Analysis: The Cowboys were really high on Demarious Randall but he was gone in the second. Dallas doesn't necessarily have safety as a must-have in 2015, but in the seventh round you look for traits. Jarrett is explosive and lighting-fast. He's got some range which is good seeing as he's only 5'10 but he can deliver a hit. He also is probably best as a free safety or nickel-back. Some times it's good to get a scrappy guy in there and let him mix it up, he's tenacious and he can tackle well. Here's a clip of a hit he put on Cowboys receiver Devin Street. Isn't he fun to think about, at least for the preseason?
With the 243rd pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
Tackle Eric Lefeld, Cincinnati
Analysis: I've taken Lefeld several times now and he's sort of my pet cat to replace Jermey Parnell. Good length with long arms and good athletic ability. Has some nastiness to him and flashes explosiveness off the ball. He's dependable and has great production. very durable player. Needs to not play so upright and lower his hips but could be a developmental player with upside to start. Improved as a run blocker in 2014 and already shows ability in passing downs. Never leaves field, relentless motor. Very optimistic that Lefeld could handle the swing tackle duties and may even develop into something more. Not a lot of exposure for him but a warrior on the field every time out.
Once again, I was pretty happy with the value throughout the mock. I now leave it in the hands of our faithful BTB community. Let me know what you think?
