The Dallas Cowboys are on the move looking to upgrade their defense. After New Orleans cut Corey White to save $1.5 million, Dallas was awarded him off waivers.
The Cowboys put in a waiver claim for the recently released White, and reports are coming in that they were awarded the 25-year old Saints cornerback.
Corey White was a fifth-round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Saints. He previously attended Samford College and garnered quite a few compliments from Scouts during his limited exposure against major college programs.
Since entering the league in 2012, he's played in 41 of 48 games. White originally played corner before moving to free safety in December of 2014. Last season, White had two interceptions, a forced fumble, six pass break-ups, 50 tackles and one sack.
White hasn't graded too favorably with PFF last year, grading out with a putrid -17.4, which ranked him 106th at the position on an abysmal Saints defense. A year earlier, when the Rob Ryan magic was still working, he graded out at a respectable +1.6.
After last year, not all Saints fans were sad to see him go.
I've never been happier about a player being cut than I am about Corey White. Such a liability on defense; glad the staff recognized it.

Other observers feel like he was forced to play out of necessity, and one Cowboys' guy is pretty excited about White's potential.

Either way, it certainly smells like a Will McClay deal, and so far he's been the guy to trust when it comes to acquisitions. It's uncertain what White's role will be in Dallas, but at 6-1, 205, he has the ideal size for the position, and he gives the Cowboys one of the "Plus" corners they have been looking for.
Also, since White was cut by the Saints, he does not qualify as a compensatory free agent, so his signing does not impact the number of comp picks the Cowboys could potentially get in 2016.
Chalk it up for the Cowboys' front office as another low-cost potentially rewarding depth move. With the uncertainty surrounding Carr, Claiborne, and Moore it can't hurt to take a look.
