With free agency about to start, Dallas has made some moves, starting the process of shaping the roster for the coming season.

There have been a variety of moves made around the NFL as February winds down. The Dallas Cowboys joined several other teams parting ways with players in making in making four roster cuts. DE Everette Brown, DT Corey Irvin, G Ray Dominguez and G Jeff Olson were cut on Friday. These are not major moves, except of course to the suddenly unemployed players themselves.

Brown saw the most playing time for Dallas. According to the stats at Pro Football Focus, he played 159 snaps for the Cowboys in 2013, and was credited with a sack, two QB hits, and six hurries. Irvin saw 119 snaps, but only had one hit and one hurry. Neither Dominguez or Olson played a down during the regular season as the Cowboys offensive front was considerably more stable than the defensive line.

Of more significance, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Cowboys will be releasing Phil Costa.

These look to be nothing more than cleaning up the roster and parting ways with players who are not seen as having a future with the Cowboys. Only Costa at one time was a guy getting real significant playing time without replacing an injured player. None of these names qualify as a surprise, although I have seen some speculation that the team thought they might want to work another season on developing Dominguez. The team is now moving on, and four players are now on the street, waiting for another call.
