Here’s an outside-thinking draft with names we haven’t talked much about.

It’s another week and we bring you another Mockery to be made of the NFL Draft. This mock will not feature any trades as the Cowboys will uncharacteristically stay put. However, we decided to take this a bit in a different direction, as always, you’ll let us know how we did.

Pick 28: Dallas Cowboys select Haason Reddick, LB, Temple (CBS 31st, DraftTek 54th)

Draft gurus are having a hard time placing Reddick to an NFL position, somehow, Matt Eberflus won’t have that same problem. Reddick is an explosive defensive player with instincts that jump off the page. Though he’s barely over six feet and weighs under 240 pounds, he made play after play. Much like Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers, teams are fighting with where to play him.

If a team will embrace the fact that this is a guy who can do multiple things for you, he will be a gem for any defensive coordinator. He can rush the passer, he can cover, he can tackle, and he most assuredly can make folks pay. He gets comps to another linebacker the Cowboys loved in Ryan Shazier. With the uncertainty at linebacker and Jaylon Smith yet to have that brace removed, Reddick is someone you just want on your team and figure everything else out later.

Pick 60: Dallas Cowboys select Cameron Sutton, CB, Tennessee (CBS 57th, DraftTek 81st)

Sutton epitomizes what these coaches look for in a player. He’s confident and a leader on and off the field. He’s extremely smart and reliable as any player in the draft. Sutton has good speed and plays with fluid hips to look natural in coverage. His best spot is certainly as a man-coverage corner where he shows some physicality for his frame (5’11, 186 lbs). He’s quick on his feet and shows the NFL-caliber awareness to be an NFL mainstay.

Sutton may not be the biggest corner but he fights hard and has the versatility to help a team in a multitude of ways. He’s had some experience returning punts and kicks in college and he’s often making interceptions that wow you. He’s athletic and has all the traits of a full-time NFL starter.

Pick 92: Dallas Cowboys select Jordan Willis, DE, Kansas State (CBS 106th, DraftTek 73rd)

Usually the first one off the snap, Willis could be a draft-day climber for his well-versed abilities as an edge rusher. He’s super productive and added Big-12 Defensive Player of the Year to his many accomplishments after being snubbed in 2015 though he had 15.5 tackles for loss with 9.5 sacks that season. He upped the ante in 2016 with 52 tackles, 17.5 for loss, and 11.5 sacks for K-State.

His awareness is top-notch and his ability to play all along the defensive line is going to make him fly off the draft boards. He’s a finisher and a hard worker with violent pass rushing moves and an excellent change of direction skills. Willis stood out at the Senior Bowl with two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Pick 133: Dallas Cowboys select Taywan Taylor, WR, Western Kentucky (CBS 119th, DraftTek 138th)

If you want to know what Taylor is all about, go watch what he did to a fine Alabama secondary because that’s what is getting him drafted. He showed an ability to get separation as he cruised to nine catches, 121 yards. His senior year saw him named to the All-Conference USA first-team with 98 catches (5th in FBS), 1,730 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Taylor can change speeds in a millisecond and that causes problems for a lot of defensive backs. He’s got top-end speed with purposeful route running albeit he could be a bit more polished. He’s an explosive receiver that can leave guys in a trail of dust. He’s an absolute dynamic receiver after the catch and could be one more wrinkle for an already powerful offense.

Pick 211: Dallas Cowboys select Tedrick Thompson, SS, Colorado (CBS 206th, DraftTek 197th)

Thompson is a quality athlete with good speed and quickness. He can play up close to the line or back in coverage. He’s tough-nosed guy that relies on his instincts which are above average. He’s got a long history of production at Colorado (10 interceptions) and has a knack for reading quarterbacks, this guy can make plays.

Pick 228: Dallas Cowboys select Tashawn Bower, OLB/DE, LSU (CBS 226th, DraftTek 238th)

More of a developmental guy but his coaches would tell you the light has started to come on for him. He could use to put on more weight but has shown explosion off the edge. He’s got a quick first-step and some abilities as a pass rusher that could develop him into an NFL contributor. The belief is that he was stuck behind a talented LSU front and will be far better in the pros.

Pick 246: Dallas Cowboys select Darrell Daniels, TE, Washington (CBS 280th, DraftTek 234th)

He has a long frame that could use work filling out. His straight-line speed is impressive as he averaged 18.1 yards per catch last season. He’s improved his ball skills and will not slow down once he’s in the open field. He’s an aggressive blocker and has shown some incredible abilities as a lead blocker. He’s also considered one of the leaders for their successful 2016 campaign.
