Latest Cowboys headlines: Roger Staubach is "mystified that we’re not all Tony Romo supporters"; OTAs kick off on Tuesday; Orlando Scandrick hopes to be a Cowboy for life with new deal.
With ‘Fantastic’ Romo, Staubach Says Cowboys Ready To Make 1990s-Like Run | Dallas Cowboys
At a flag football event benefiting the Wounded Warriors, Roger Staubach said there is a definite buzz in Dallas about the team.
"Oh yeah, there’s no question about it," Staubach said of the excitement. "In the ’90s, it was a lot of fun to go to work every day, watching the Cowboys win. Now, it looks like we’re headed there again. It makes a big difference."
"I’m just mystified that we’re not all Tony Romo supporters," Staubach said. "He’s a fantastic football player. He needs some good people around him like we all do in life. He’s a winning, franchise quarterback."
How long will Will McClay remain with Cowboys? - Todd Archer, ESPN
In his Twitter mailbag, Archer ruminates on McClay's potentially short future in Dallas.
I'm surprised McClay's name did not come up more in general manager searches this offseason. There were some rumblings, but no interviews. Last year was his first full year running the show, so to speak, as far as putting the scouting department together, so maybe teams want to see a larger body of work. The Cowboys value McClay and he has loyalty to the organization that gave him a chance, but there should come a time where he will want to try it on his own.
Given the configuration of the Cowboys' flow chart, McClay has maxed out where he can go in Dallas. It's still pretty high and it's still a good gig considering the leeway involved, but he won't be running the show. McClay has a great eye for talent, knows how to put together a team and can think like a coach. If the Cowboys succeed in 2015, I believe he will be on the top of a lot of interview lists.
Spagnola: OTAs begin on Tuesday | Dallas Cowboys
Spags gives a rundown of things to look for at OTAs, which will kick off on Tuesday for the Cowboys.
Remember Doug Free (ankle surgery) and Morris Claiborne (dual patellar tendon surgeries) won’t be participating, and I’m told the staff will put a governor on Sean Lee, returning from the torn ACL he suffered this time last year.
Be interesting to see who lines up at right tackles, but expect Darion Weems [sic], Chaz Green and likely La’el Collins, who at some point will gets [sic] snaps at guard, too. As for linebackers, first out should be Rolando McClain in the middle, Lee weak and Anthony Hitchens strong.
And on the defensive line, from left to right, DeMarcus Lawrence, Nick Hayden/Terrell McClain, Tyrone Crawford and Jermey Mincey [sic] /Greg Hardy/Gregory. Be interesting to see how many prime snaps are given to Hardy, knowing he still has that 10-game suspension pending.

The Cowboys’ agreed to a contract extension with Orlando Scandrick that will pay him $20 million in total over the next five years.
With New Deal, Scandrick Hopes to be a Cowboy For Life | Scott Crisp, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
With a newly reworked deal in place that'll keep him in Dallas through 2019, Orlando Scandrick hopes he'll remain with the Cowboys for the rest of his career.
"I would like to think I'm going to be (a Cowboy) for life," Scandrick said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. "It's going on eight years. It's now on me to take care of my end of the bargain and continue to be a productive player."
"I think this was a special circumstance," Scandrick said of his contract situation. "Two years ago when I signed an extension it was essentially a pay cut. It's not normal you see guys take pay cuts in the prime of their career. A lot of people look at the overall numbers and think you signed a new deal and it was something I wanted to do to essentially stay with the team and have some stability. Looking back on it I don't know if it was the best decision, but now waking up here today it's all irrelevant and I've moved past it. I can't put into words how appreciative I am of the Jones family and the organization."
Scandrick Feels ‘Blessed’ By 1-Year Extension With Cowboys - Mike Fisher, CBS Dallas / Fort Worth
Orlando Scandrick told Mike Fisher that he "blessed and appreciative’’ after finalizing a re-worked contract.
"I thank the Jones family,’’ Scandrick tells me. "I’m grateful … it’s a blessing and I can’t put into words how appreciative I am of the Dallas Cowboys organization and the Jones family."
Sifting through meaning of Orlando Scandrick deal with Dallas Cowboys - Todd Archer, ESPN
Archer provides a quick analysis of the Cowboys contract and focuses on what the contract extension means for the other players on the team.
Scandrick’s new deal averages $4 million a year through 2019. There were deals in free agency this year for cornerbacks not as good as Scandrick that averaged $6 million a year. By re-doing Scandrick’s contract, the Cowboys kept the player happy and showed his teammates that they are willing to work through tricky situations.
Randy Couture's brutal MMA-based conditioning program: "Football is a series of 60 10-second fights." - PhiladelphiaEagles.com
DeMarco Murray first popularized MMA training for football players in Dallas, and this article looks at how such a trainign has benefited Lane Johnson, the Eagles' left tackle.
"What we do have is we will grind you out, and grind you and grind you until somebody just says 'get Randy Couture off me (in the ring),'" Jay Glazer, co-founder of MMA Athletics, said. "And that’s what we kind of do is utilize that, so a guy like Lane who threw up nine times in the first three days because he’s never been through something like this. So he came to us at 310 pounds, and he left at 310.
"And he’s totally changed his body composition. He told me that when he went in to test (at the start of the offseason conditioning program at the NovaCare Complex), he had the highest new muscle growth, the highest fat-loss change and highest body composition change of anyone on his team. And the highest velocity output and the highest force output for anybody in his position, so all the big guys. I couldn’t ask for anything more."
For what its worth I was told by a good friend that the @Commanders will be on Hard Knocks. Take that as you will.

Shanahan on RG3: He hasn't done things that the NFL asks you to do - CBSSports.com
Like a spurned lover, Mike Shanahan continues to comment on Robert Griffin III and continues to find fault with everything about the Commanders except his own coaching performance. Maybe they should give him five minutes at the end of every Hard Knocks episode to provide his 'insider' view on the Commanders, and call it: "How aliens ate my playbook in Washington."
Giants' Eli Manning worst QB in NFL under pressure, says PFF - Big Blue View
Pro Football Focus data shows a wide disparity in Manning's play with or without pressure from the pass rush.
Giants' quarterback Eli Manning is a top 10 NFL quarterback when he isn't pressured, with a +12.8 score when not facing any pressure. Manning, however, is dead last among 37 quarterbacks graded when facing pressure, with a -12.1 score. Manning, per PFF, has now been the worst quarterback in the league against pressure for two years running.
We know Manning is a stationary target. We know that Football Outsiders recently showed us that Manning didn't force a single missed tackle while pressured last season. We know from past history that more bad things than good ones tend to happen when Manning starts running around.
