Coaching background helps Will McClay - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
Archer follows up Tuesday's feature on McClay with a look at McClay's coaching background: He was a defensive coordinator for five Arena Football League teams, including the Dallas Desperados, and served as the Desperados head coach from 2004-08, and even as a pro scout with the Cowboys, McClay was working in the offseason with defensive backs at different times.
"I think it’s a huge benefit not only in evaluating talent, but evaluating what’s behind the talent," said Terry Gray, a scouting consultant and former assistant coach to McClay. "Who is the guy? What’s important to him? How does he compete? What is his daily work ethic? What is he thinking? What’s his reaction time? Can he process what he sees in a timely fashion to compete in the NFL? Will’s not just been a coach, but being a head coach gives him a deeper perspective on evaluating players and how they play on the field, but what they are built on and who they are and what their core principles are."

DT Kerry Hyder Eager To Make Most Of Valley Ranch Visit - Nick Eatman, DallasCowboys.com
Texas Tech defensive tackle Kerry Hyder was one of the ten visitors to Valley Ranch yesterday. Good news for the Cowboys: this was Hyder's only pre-draft visit with a team, so there's a chance he could end up with a star on his helmet. Hyder is projected to be taken in the 6th or 7th round.
2014 NFL draft Round 1 trade scenarios - Audibles - SI.com
Chris Burke provides a trade scenario for every team and looks at which player or position each franchise should be thinking about trading up for in Round 1, and writes that the Cowboys should consider trading up for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
Thanks to Barry Church, the Cowboys’ safety position is not quite as dire as it was even early last year. Still, it is far from a strength, and in Clinton-Dix they could add a standout option. It would be a surprise if Clinton-Dix is taken higher than No. 10, meaning that Dallas could limit the cost of a trade.
2014 Cowboys Weekly Draft Notebook: Cornerbacks - Bob Sturm
The Sturminator takes a detailed look at the corners likely to be available in the first three rounds. His conclusion:
Gilbert, Fuller, Verrett, and Dennard are all very solid corners who can be starters for years. I have major questions about Roby, Roberson looks promising but only at the right price, and Jean-Baptiste is not my cup of tea.
