Latest Cowboys headlines: A Jets beat writer speculates about Claiborne as a potential trade target for the Jets; Aaron Donald continues climbing up draft boards; Cowboys and 49ers trade partners again?
Cornering the market: Claiborne to the Jets? - New York Jets Blog - ESPN
In a 10-point list of odds and ends regarding the Jets, Rich Cimini speculates about a possible trade scenario that could involve Morris Claiborne.
7. Cornering the market: If the Jets don't pick a cornerback in the first round, I wouldn't be surprised if they explore the possibility of acquiring a veteran, perhaps in a trade. There has been speculation about the Dallas Cowboys trying to deal the disappointing Morris Claiborne, the sixth overall pick in 2012, but they'd take a major cap hit. Right now, his cap charge is $4.4 million, but it would explode to $9.6 million if they trade him, counting the bonus acceleration. The Cowboys would have to receive an offer they can't refuse to absorb that kind of hit.
Will Aaron Donald last to the 16th pick? Draftinsider.net
It seems like every week that passes moves Aaron Donald a bit higher on the draft boards on the interwebs. Tony Pauline wonders how high Donald could eventually end up.
I’m told the talented lineman could be selected as early as the 6th pick or as late as the 16th choice. The Atlanta Falcons own the sixth selection and the feeling is if the quarterbacks fall and none of the top offensive tackles or pass rushers are available at the selection they could look in Donald’s direction. I’m told the New York Giants will consider Donald at 12 as will the Chicago Bears at 14.
If Donald somehow lasts to the 16th pick it will be manna from heaven for the Dallas Cowboys. I was told weeks ago Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli expressed to Donald the desire to draft him during combine interviews. There are many reasons for Donald’s rise but as one source pointed out none are greater than the interior pass rush he brings to the field.

Dallas Cowboys QB Caleb Hanie is living the dream - Calvin Watkins, ESPN
Caleb Haney, the second free agent QB the Cowboys signed this offseason, is glad to have a job with the Cowboys after growing up in Forney, Texas.
"It's a blessing," Hanie said to ESPNDallas. "It's surreal. A little big, it's a childhood team. You dream about playing (for the Cowboys)."
Which NFL Teams Really Have the Toughest And Easiest Schedules in 2014? | FiveThirtyEight
Neil Paine of FiveThirtyEight.com takes a different approach to calculating which teams have the toughest schedule in the NFL for the upcoming season. According to his calculations, the Cowboys have the 18th-toughest schedule, which is the exact same rank the Cowboys have using the standard approach. Too bad, no help here.
Cowboys and 49ers trade partners again?
Chris Mortensen "speculatively reports" the 49ers have the means and and motive to move up in the 2014 NFL Draft. They may be looking higher than the 16th pick, but No. 16 could be a good fallback option for them.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen suggested Mike Evans as a trade-up target for #49ers. Mort hearing Niners "could be very aggressive in this draft."
— Evan Silva (@evansilva) April 25, 2014
For the many members of the 49ers front office staff who regularly frequent our pages, we'd like to point out that Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandin Cooks are also two darn fine wide receivers - and both are likely to be available at No. 16.
The 'other' trade - St. Louis Rams Blog - ESPN
Nick Wagoner speculates that the Rams' "other" pick in this year's draft, the No. 13 pick could be an enticing target for teams looking to trade up for a QB. Read the following two paragraphs carefully, and then tell me they don't sound strikingly familiar to Cowboys fans who are bleeding out of their ears from all the Manziel-to-Dallas talk.
Without giving away the farm, Dominik sees a potential fit for the Rams to move down, but from No. 13 not No. 2. The idea is that a team, such as Cleveland, could be looking to make a move to secure the quarterback it wants in the middle of the round rather than rolling the dice in the top 10.
To me, a move like that could make a lot of sense. It would allow the Rams to accumulate some more picks in the second or third round (depending on how far they would have to move down) and still get a good player for the secondary, offensive line or wherever they so choose. It could also be a reason why recent leaks have the Rams connected to Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel as a possible choice at No. 13. Perhaps a way to coerce a team to consider moving up with the Rams to take him? [emphasis added]
Buffalo Bills Hoping for a lot of QB picks in top 10 - ESPN Buffalo
Just like the Cowboys, many other teams are hoping for a rush on QBs that will push other talented players their way. Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley hopes that four QBs will be picked before Buffalo's 8th pick.
"I hope before us, four of them go," Whaley said, laughing. "I mean, this is one of the years that the QB position is so up in the air about when they will go. I can’t tell you, but I will tell you this: If four of them go, we’ll be ready. If none of them go, we’ll be ready."
Where do you get your news from?
Sundays during the offseason are the worst time to look for some relevant Cowboys news, so sometimes we resort to tricks to fill up the Monday morning pages. Today's trick: We looked at the 110 early morning news posts we've published so far this year to identify to which writers in the DFW media and to how many of their articles we linked to from January through April. Because just like it's important to know where the food you eat is coming from, it's important to know where the news you consume is coming from. Here are the results:

2013 NFL Draft do-over - NFL.com
How would the 2013 NFL Draft play out if held with the benefit of hindsight? Bucky Brooks presents a scenario in which the Cowboys inexplicably pick up some dude named Zach Ertz instead of Travis Frederick. Link included today strictly for its comedic value.
49er fan sues NFL for $50M over playoff tickets - San Antonio Express-News
One 49ers fan takes objection to the fact that the Seahawks instituted a ticket policy for the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers in which people who wanted to buy face value tickets when they went on sale had to live in a certain part of the country. Specifically, ticket sales were limited to credit cards with addresses in the states of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta - which excludes credit card holders with addresses in any of the 44 remaining states in the continental US.
The insane, demeaning life of an NFL cheerleader | New York Post
This is a damning account of a former Buffalo Bills cheerleader, and what they were made to go through. The Buffalo "Jills" were managed by an organization separate from the Bills that saw fit to have the Jills attend events and be groped by men, or sit on their lap, or go in a dunk tank, or be put in any number of sexually compromising positions - and paid them a maximum of $1,800, and as little as $105, in a single season, a lawsuit brought by former Jills claims.
Troy Vincent looks to upgrade NFL - Yahoo Sports
New NFL director of football operations Troy Vincent can envision the NFL investing in a developmental league.
"We need to keep the pipeline of talent flowing, and that means for all areas of our game: players, coaches, scouts, game officials. I am responsible to look at whatever the competition committee looks at, and that includes a developmental league."
''For all this football talent around, we have to create another platform for developing it. Maybe it's an academy - what would it look like? Maybe it's a spring league; we'll look to see if there is an appetite for it.''
NFL Europe, the last such league, folded in 2007. But it produced plenty of NFL talent in all sorts of jobs.
They Hook You When You’re Young: How fans choose their team - NYTimes.com
This article looks at the formative years of baseball fans and concludes that if a team wins a World Series when a boy is between 8 and 12 years old, it increases the probability he will support them as an adult by 7-8%. Very interesting stuff.
