With the knowledge of how hamstring injuries have affected Austin in previous years, the Cowboys are not taking any chances with Austin.

Dallas Cowboys' Gavin Escobar looks forward to trip home - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
Escobar, who grew up about an hour from San Diego and played college ball at San Diego State, has been busy buying tickets to the game for family and friends: Earlier this week, he was already at 20 tickets.
"My family’s going to be able to come to the game. A lot of my family, actually," Escobar said. "It’s going to be quite a few tickets. But I’m used to playing in that stadium, so it’ll be nice."

With Austin out versus the Chargers, it's next man up, and in this case that'll be Williams. Williams has been working on improving his rapport with Romo, and believes Romo has more confidence in him now.
"He is starting to have some trust in me," Williams said. "I have to just keep showing him when he gives me chances to make plays on balls, just come down with it and make the play."
Terrance Williams said best advice he's received from Romo is to play fast. Romo told him: If u mess up, "mess up going 100 miles per hour."

Randle is the only rookie from the 2013 draft class without an NFL snap yet, but that could change aganist San Diego. Randle said on Friday that he will likely play on two special teams units.
Harris not worried about hip pointer after playing with it last week - Carlos Mendez, Star-Telegram
Dwayne Harris said he's made progress since last week and that he's not worried about playing with the hip pointer he suffered last week on a punt return.
"I played the whole game Sunday with the same thing," Harris said. "You never want to be injured, cause it takes you out of what you want to be doing, what you love to do," he said. "But it’s just part of the game. It’s why we’ve got trainers. To get us better, get us back on the field as soon as possible, and that’s what they did."

Durant says the same things that make Gates tough to cover are the same things that make Witten tough to cover. And going up against Witten every day in practice not only made the Cowboys "better as a linebacker group," but will also help Durant as he takes on Gates in on Sunday.

Tony Romo's increased role game-planning during the week at Valley Ranch has led to less risk-taking on the field, Jerry Jones said Friday morning.
That's one way of looking at it of course. Romo's low interception rate could also simply be a function of the extra time he has in the pocket this year.
Selvie grateful to be in a scheme that allows him to sack QBs - Jon Machota, FSSouthwest
George Selvie has been a great surprise at DE, where he has two sacks to his name along with 12 QB pressures the fifth most among 4-3 DEs. And part of the reason for that, according to Selvie, is playing in a scheme that works to his strengths.
"It's a great scheme," Selvie said. "You go out there and attack, get after it, strip balls, get sacks, just go out there and have fun, that's what we do in this scheme. That's what we love to do and that's what our coaches encourage us to do every day. I've been in some schemes where I had to drop a lot. I'm not the greatest coverage guy in the world. I want to go out there and sack the quarterback."
"The Cowboys have given me an opportunity to rush the passer," Selvie said, "and I'm grateful for that."
