McClain's Return Solidifies Linebacking Corps | Richie Whitt, NBC 5 DFW
Whitt writes that with McClain at MIKE, Lee at WILL and Hitchens at SAM, the Cowboys’ linebacking corps "could be in its best shape in a long time."
Considering Lee’s litany of injuries and McClain’s kamikaze style, obviously the Cowboys still need help at the position. They signed Keith Rivers, Jasper Brinkley and Andrew Gachkar in free agency and still have Kyle Wilber and Cameron Lawrence as returning veterans. Again, those pieces are much more appealing with McClain as the anchor. But I’m still not sure drafting another linebacker is out of the question.
Breaking down Rolando McClain's contract - Todd Archer, ESPN
Archer provides the details of Rolando McClain's new one-year deal worth $3 million. McClain has a base salary of $750,000 and and can earn an extra $250,000 in a workout bonus. In addition to his base salary and the workout bonus, McClain received a $500,000 signing bonus. Finally, McClain can earn up to $1.5 million in per-game roster bonuses, or $93,750 for each week he is on the 46-man game-day roster.
Darren McFadden: World hasn't seen the best of me - NFL.com
Darren McFadden struggled the past three seasons in Oakland. Now that he's a Dallas Cowboy, the running back is ready to show the world the best version of himself.
"I just want to go out there and continue to show people what I can do," he said. "I still don't think the world has seen the best of Darren McFadden."
"When you look at those guys on film, they're just opening holes," McFadden said of the Cowboys' offensive line. "They have a great group of guys that are working hard. Even there now working out, the whole O-line is there right now before OTAs, so it's a great group of guys and they have a great thing going. ... I'm looking forward to being there with them."
McFadden thinks his best work still ahead - Silver And Black Pride
After closely watching McFadden's entire career, the Raiders SB Nation blog likes McFadden's chances in Dallas better than many Cowboys fans do.
McFadden's primary issue throughout his career has been his health. He did manage to stay on his feet for the entire 2014 season, but his offensive line was putrid at run blocking and he didn't have much success. As far as anyone knows, he is in good health currently and Dallas loves to spread the carries around to different backs because they run the ball often. Even if McFadden isn't the primary back in Dallas, his relatively fresh legs and versatility should enable him to be a productive player.
McFadden Expects Cowboys to Draft a Running Back | Scott Crisp, NBC 5 DFW
Darren McFadden said this week that he fully expects the Cowboys to select a running back in the upcoming draft.
"It wouldn't surprise me at all," McFadden said. "I'm a guy who's been in the league seven, eight years now. A team doesn't want to just put their everything on a guy. ... I feel like they're going to take a running back, and it's not going to be something that changes how I feel about the team. I'm a competitive guy, it'll bring out the best in me."
Dallas Cowboys draft breakdown: CB Byron Jones - Todd Archer, ESPN
Byron Jones has been screaming up the draft boards of late, and Archer counts him as a legitimate target for the Cowboys in the first round.
If he is there at No. 27, I would have no problem with the Cowboys turning his name in. He is big. He seems to like to be physical and he can also turn and run with guys. He was a safety, which gives him an idea of what the entire secondary is supposed to do, so he is not just closed off to one side of the field. Among the players expected to be available near the end of the first round, I would put him and Kevin Johnson as the top two cornerbacks, based on what I’ve seen so far.
Take Away His X Best Carries And He’s Average - Football Perspective
DeMarco Murray rushed 393 times for 1,845 yards, producing a strong 4.69 YPC average. Chase Stuart asks the following question:
Suppose we sort each running back’s carries in descending order by yards gained. How many carries would we need to take away from Murray in order to drop his YPC average to at or below league average?
The answer is much lower than most people will expect, and a good reminder that YPC is highly sensitive to outliers - something to keep in mind as we evaluate college players.

Eagles' Chip Kelly has merchants scared shirtless - Philly.com
Philadelphia sporting goods stores don't trust Chip Kelly enough to buy any jersey inventory. The Eagles' wholesale moves have outdated most stores' inventory and made them cautious about marketing new players.
Here's what else you won't see at Modell's or anywhere else, at least yet: jerseys of the other big offseason acquisitions, Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell. Here's what you will see: racks and racks of jerseys with the names Foles, McCoy and Maclin on the back, in all sizes, under signs advertising discounts of up to 70 percent. [...]
Sanders, who hails from South Philadelphia, eyed an Eagles display that did not contain the shirt of a single current Eagle and shook his head.
"I grew up loving my Eagles," he said. "I look at all of this and I'm like, 'Aaarrgh.' "
