The Cowboys welcome back to practice one of the key cog on defenses for 2014.
We don't usually get bent out of shape too much about whether a player is practicing or not, but today we're going to make an exception.
Henry Melton re-joined practice today and took reps with the first team. Melton is expected to be a key cog in the Cowboys' revamped defensive line, so his participation in practice is a big deal.
Because Melton hasn't played in any of the three preseason games so far, it feels like he's been out of practice for half an eternity. But in fact, he's only been out two weeks after straining his groin on August 10 in Oxnard. Prior to that, he had been a participant in every single practice during training camp in Oxnard.
In Melton's absence, the Cowboys starters on the defensive line have recorded a grand total of zero sacks over the first three preseason games. And while rookies like Davon Coleman and Ken Bishop have played commendably as defensive tackles for the Cowboys, fans and coaches alike expect a much more disruptive presence in the middle of the line once Melton rejoins the team, and the knock-on effect of having Melton back in the lineup could also benefit the defensive ends in their quest for a sack or two.
