After working out the former 2nd-round pick earlier today, the Cowboys wasted no time signing Ryan Williams to the squad.

The Cowboys work out former Arizona Cardinals running back Ryan Williams today and subsequently signed the the 38th overall pick in the 2011 draft who was released by the Cardinals on Monday this week.

Williams spent an injury-marred three years with the Cardinals, but played in only five games for Arizona in three years. Williams' first season ended in the preseason with a torn patella tendon. His second year ended five games into the season with a shoulder injury. His third season just never got off the ground as he continued rehabbing his knee, which he says is finally back to 100 percent.

"I’ve worked my tail off to get to this point," Williams said. "It was a rocky road, but I got it done. Regardless of how anybody sees my career going, it was beneficial for me not to play last year and the other year I got hurt with my shoulder. It just gives my knee more time. This isn’t an easy injury to come back from at all. It worked for me."

If Williams finds back to his college form that saw him run for 1,655 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior at Virginia Tech in 2009, he would be a formidable addition for the Cowboys. Dallas already has five running backs on its roster right now, DeMarco Murray, Lance Dunbar, and Joseph Randle, as well as the recently signed UDFAs Glasco Martin and Ben Malena. Former Wake Forest back Josh Harris is also in for a tryout this weekend at the team’s rookie mini-camp.

The Cowboys will have to make a roster move to get Williams onto their 90-man offseason roster, but no release has been announced yet.
