The Cowboys announced yesterday that center Travis Frederick has signed a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth year. The team can exercise that option at a salary equal to the average of the 3rd-25th top-paid centers in the league when the option is due.

Frederick was the Cowboys' top pick in the 2013 NFL draft and was picked with the No. 31 overall pick. With the signing, the Cowboys now have all their 2013 rookies under contract.

Details of Frederick's contract were not immediately available, but estimates are that Frederick signed for about $6.9 million, of which about $5.5 million are guaranteed. Frederick's signature comes with a signing bonus of an estimated $3.4 million.

Travis Frederick was brought in by the Cowboys to anchor the middle of the offensive line, where the Cowboys had some issues the past couple of seasons. So far in OTAs, Frederick has taken all the snaps at center with the first team unit, an early indication that Frederick is likely already penciled in as the starter from day one.

Hopes are high in Dallas that Frederick will turn out to be the difference-maker the offensive line needs:


In a best-case scenario, the Cowboys will have their version of Nick Mangold to join left tackle Tyron Smith in anchoring the offensive line. NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt believes Frederick actually compares favorably to the New York Jets' All-Pro.
