The Ravens traded linebacker Ronaldo McClain and a seventh-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys for a sixth-round pick.

Per ESPN's Adam Shefter, the Ravens traded linebacker Ronaldo McClain and a seventh-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys for a sixth-round pick.

Interrupt soccer for this: Dallas traded 6th-rd pick for LB Rolando McClain and Baltimore's 7th-rd pick, per source. McClain wants to play.

McClain had retired twice while under contract with the Ravens. He initially signed with the Ravens in April, 2013, but announced his retirement a month later. In March this year, McClain announced that he would resume his NFL career. The Ravens reinstated McClain from their Retired/Reserve list, only to see him retire again a month later.

The Cowboys have reinstated McClain from the Retired/Reserve list. At the same time, they placed LB Sean Lee on injured reserve, thus freeing up a spot for McClain.

McClain initially entered the league in 2010 as the number 8 overall pick for the Oakland Raiders, but hasn't played an NFL game since 2012. But he's still just 24 years old, has played middle linebacker in a 4-3 scheme, and the Cowboys are not paying much to kick the tires on a player who once had a whole lot of people excited about his potential.

We know from the Cowboys' leaked draft board in 2010 that the Cowboys had McClain ranked as the No. 7 player on their board, so if they manage to activate McClain's potential - and if he doesn't retire again - this could turn into a big win for the Cowboys.

Lots of "ifs" though.
