As the Cowboys are getting their final practices in Oxnard wrapped up, tempers began to flare up. Also, Ezekiel Elliott is back riding with the ones.

The Cowboys are starting to get some troops back ahead of their second preseason game against the Dolphins at AT&T Stadium. LB Damien Wilson, DE Benson Mayowa, and DT Maliek Collins were all activated yesterday off the PUP list and today Ezekiel Elliott got himself back in the fold. It remains to be see if any of these guys will find a series or two in the coming exhibition this Friday.

I wouldn't expect Elliott to be a guy that debuts this week, though:

Zeke Did not work full practice today. Doesn't expect to do it this week. #Cowboys at #Seahawks his likely debut https://t.co/3CABCn4EI1

Before we dive into practice, we would be remiss if we didn't bring you the news of the day. Jerry Jones was named a finalist for the 2017 NFL Hall of Fame class. Congrats, Jerry.

Chaz Green is still filling in for Tyron Smith (stinger), let's hope they give him all the time they can because he showed that he needs work.

Unfortunately, we have to report that David Irving hurt his groin in practice:

David Irving's injury might not be severe with regard to Week 1, but the Cowboys are going to have a hell of a time fielding a DL vs. Miami.

As we reported earlier, temper's were flaring at practice today.

Dez Bryant just pointed in Mo's face & then at 4 other DBs: "You can't guard me. You can't guard me. You can't guard me. You can't guard me.

Dez was really fired up in today's practice and the defensive backs weren't taking kindly to his comments. They decided to bring it back themselves.

Mo' also barely missed on an interception from Tony Romo, defense was called for offsides.

You know that Dez got in a few of his own, though. It's hard to battle it out with one of the league's best receiver and most definitely the league's most physical receiver:

Tony Romo didn't seem to start his day off well but it only matters how you finish as Romo got back into a rhythm:

Well, Tony Romo responds by completing his last five passes in 7-on-7, including TDs to Escobar, Beasley.

Here's a toss to Gavin Escobar:

Jameill Showers also had a pretty decent day but 7-on-7's are not exactly the real thing:

It was Dak Prescott and the offense that got the last laugh of the day:

Overall, the offense may have had their work cut out for them but the theme of training camp has been how this defense has been bringing the intensity levels up. With as good as this offense can be advertised, the defense wants to hear nothing of it:

Practice is over. The offense did not do well, as evidenced by Dez yelling "WHY DID WE END PRACTICE LIKE THAT," to no one in particular.

— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 17, 2016

Morris Claiborne, the leader of the boulders on their shoulders, sounded off after practice. He certainly felt good with how practice ended.

Mo Claiborne says the DBs had a good day. Part of the reason? "We got Dez riled up."

— Drew Davison (@drewdavison) August 17, 2016

Morris Claiborne: "I hate when [Dez Bryant] goes and throws up the X to the crowd. It kinda makes you mad when you're the one guarding him."

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 17, 2016

Claiborne: "Dez brings the best outta you. It fires you up. It puts something in your heart. You're either going to stand up or stand down."

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 17, 2016

When we look back at these practices we may see a lack of proven talent at certain positions but this was as feisty a camp that I can remember and these guys are handling themselves like a team looking for a huge payoff. They are locked in and ready to go. It's been a fresh taste to what we've seen in the past. It's a welcomed sight and though there were no brawls or anything silly like that, it's just been good ol' competitive drives after each other on every play.
