The Cowboys backup quarterback situation just got more confusing.
The Dallas Cowboys suffered their first confirmed major injury of training camp today when backup quarterback Kellen Moore suffered a broken ankle.
Kellen Moore has broken his leg/high ankle, according to Jerry Jones. Declined to address what club will do moving forward.

Moore got rolled up on and needed the trainers help to get off the field. Moore was seen being carted off to the locker room with an air cast on his leg. Dak Prescott stepped in at QB2 for the remainder of practice. The Cowboys may be looking for another passer sooner rather than later. This will certainly resurface the name of Nick Foles in Dallas, although the coaching staff may not see it that way.
Kyle Wilber also suffered an injury but at this time we don't know how severe it is for the linebacker.
Now on to the news pre-practice...
Since this is the first week of training camp, the Cowboys want to get everyone acclimated, especially the younger guys on just what it takes to earn that star on the side of their helmets. Today was no different as the Cowboys continued their teachings of fundamental football and philosophy implementation. Jason Garrett started his press conference with what he didn't like about yesterday's padded practice:
"There were too many players on the ground. The execution wasn't very good." he told Jon Machota of Dallas Morning News.
Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson stated that Tony Romo is doing everything the right way and that he always has to monitor Romo's back as he deals with stiffness at times. Nothing too alarming as Romo is having perhaps the best offseason in five years with the club. Here's a quote from Coach Wilson for perspective:

Someone who was not out for the walk-through portion was Tyrone Crawford as they continue to monitor his back as well and play the precautionary game. Crawford tells 105.3 The Fan that it's nothing too concerning, "just going to leave it up to the trainers." One last nugget before practice got underway was this one that head coach Jason Garrett said:
Jason Garrett said they're excited about their young def. linemen, but quickly adds "We're always looking for ways to make our team better."

Alright, now that the preliminaries are out of the way, here's a quick rundown of practice. Tony Romo did take the field for the Cowboys' fourth practice and the second one in pads. As expected, Tyrone Crawford remained on the sidelines and joining him was Terrell McClain.
There was a potential scare early when trainers were seen looking at Dez Bryant's right foot. Turns out that Dez has been dealing with blisters and has been wearing different styles of cleats. He was back into practice for 11-on-11 with a smile on his face and a completion from Tony Romo that would have been a touchdown. You can tell that both Romo and Bryant are also knocking off the rust as a few passes sailed on them. Another interesting 88 sighting was in the form of Dez returning punts with the special teams unit.
Speaking of special teams, the ninja-fast, social media sensation Lucky Whitehead had a rough day as he dropped quite a few passes. Looks like he'll be spending another late-evening JUGS session with Dez again.
Ezekiel Elliott was the topic of discussion as he was stuffed with regularity yesterday. Well, Zeke cut past the defense for a huge gain in the 11-on-11's but he was also stuffed in short yardage. Zeke also had a tense moment when he fell to the field but it was because he had a cramp and the trainer stretched him out.
If you want a pass rusher to get excited about perhaps DeMarcus Lawrence is your guy as he and Tyron Smith are really starting to battle each other. Going up against the best has its advantages as it can only make you learn how to be better. Lawrence put on a spin move that really showed some agility. Now, Lawrence must make sure that when he makes the spin, he doesn't lose his footing. Maybe we have an exciting camp battle brewing similar to Sean Lee-DeMarco Murray battles of the past.
Throughout today's practice, it was more of what Jason Garrett doesn't want as ball-carriers were knocked to the ground repetitively and things seemed a bit sloppy. You want to create a physical environment but you got to take care of your players. Garrett was not happy about the carelessness that took place as guys were a bit aggressive. Stay tuned for a detailed report on the injuries as well as the practice notes.
