He keeps setting records and winning awards.
Even when the Dallas Cowboys tanked in their first game of the 2014 season, losing an ugly game to San Francisco, DeMarco Murray and the run game looked good. It was one of the few glimmers of hope that came out of that game. At the time we didn't know it, but the Cowboys were on their way to having the most devastating run game in the league. Behind their revamped offensive line DeMarco Murray starting making mince-meat of opposing defenses. In the month of September, he won the NFC Offensive Player of the Month award. He just claimed it again for October.
For the second straight month Murray is winning awards after racking up eight straight 100-yard games to start the season, something never done before in the NFL. Murray has 1,054 yards on the season, Arian Foster is in a distant second with 766. Murray leads the league in these categories, too: Carries (206), 20+ yard runs (8), Rushing TDs (7, tied with Foster). He's also caught 26 passes for 239 yards, a 9.2 yard per catch average. The only thing he's not doing is holding on to the football, the fumbles need to stop. Otherwise, Murray is having the kind of year athletes dream about. He's on pace to set the record for yards in a season, the current mark is by Eric Dickerson at 2,105 yards.
On another note, the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month was Sammy Watkins. Okay, the kid is dynamic and I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it. But I wonder if anybody who votes on these things is considering Zack Martin. All these yards Murray gets come from the guys up front, and Martin has been as good as anybody in run blocking. Let's get a little love for the big uglies.
