DeMarco Murray suffered a worse injury than originally thought, he has a broken bone in his left hand. He'll undergo surgery but he hasn't been ruled out of Sunday's game yet.
According to a recent report, DeMarco Murray's left hand injury in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles turned out to be a broken bone. Stephen Jones said the following about the injury, when talking about Murray's potential to still play this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts:
"It's probably a tough expectation to think that he can, but we'll see."
When you originally hear the words "broken bone", especially when talking about a running back's hand, you have to think that there's very little chance for a quick return. Apparently, though, there's a strong reason for Dallas Cowboys' fans to not go into a complete tank mode and worry about losing their star running back for the whole season, thanks to an interesting point from Jones.
"Emmitt Smith had this same injury against the Vikings," said Jones. "He didn't make it back the next week, but the week after that he was back and running well."
While the Cowboys have relied heavily on Murray this season, and it would be a brutal blow to this team for him to miss any time, backup Joseph Randle has done a very solid job filling in. Randle has rushed 34 times for 237 yards and two touchdowns. He's an explosive option in the run game and I don't believe that not having Murray would force the Cowboys to return to their pass-first ways from previous years. The Cowboys could also add Ryan Williams to the mix, he has spent the year on the practice squad after a very productive pre-season.
If Murray does miss this weekend's game, expect to see a nice dose of Randle, but also for Lance Dunbar to get his fair share of work as well. As for Romo and the passing game, they'll continue to roll right along doing what they've done all through the 2014 season.
