While Josh Norman chirps, Dez Bryant works.

If a Josh Norman squawks and there’s no one around to hear it, does it really make a sound?

Last week Washington Commanders CB Josh Norman - via a lengthy Bleacher Report interview - had a few choice words about his superior, Dez Bryant:

Let's get into a little word association with receivers. Dez Bryant?

That's a guy. Just a guy. Dez was Dez in 2012, '13, '14. Maybe '14. Now? He's a guy.

There's no specific aspect to his game that pops? He's bland?

He doesn't "wow" you. For me, he don't. For other guys, he probably will do the worst to them because he'll bully them. But you can't bully a bully. You know what I'm saying? That's why his game doesn't resonate to me.

Dez isn’t any having of that. Why? Because he’s above it.

Dez Bryant on Josh Norman: "He'll see me when he sees me. When I line up against him, we're going to go at it. That’s what it is."

Josh Norman will see Dez Bryant for the first time when the Cowboys and Commanders square off in a Week 8 matchup on October 29th in Washington. The NFC East rivals will meet in Dallas during an NBC version of Thursday Night Football game seven days after Thanksgiving which we just found out will feature Mike Tirico on play-by-play, not Al Michaels.

During his post-OTAs press conference on Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett spoke glowingly of Dez Bryant. Garrett’s “right kind of guy” mantra has come under firing recently what with the news concerning David Irving and Nolan Carroll, but Dez Bryant is without a doubt that creed’s success personified.

It wasn’t long ago that an instance like this would cause Dez Bryant to become agitated and defensive. Maybe it’s NFL experience, maybe it’s the youth around him, or maybe it’s simply the fact that he’s an older player now... Dez Bryant has matured in a way that the 2010 version of himself wouldn’t recognize.

We could sit here all day long and poke holes in Josh Norman’s logic as to why Dez Bryant is “just a guy”, but even Dez himself is smh-ing at that. Let’s go to work. Let’s practice and then put on cleats. That’s when we’ll find out who’s just a guy, and the consensus says that it’s not Mr. Throw Up The X.
