The Cowboys new right tackle enjoyed a good night, but one play was especially fun.
La’el Collins made his debut at right tackle for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. It was no easy assignment for his first time around, he spent most of the night blocking pass-rush specialist Jason Pierre-Paul. The Giants have two dominant ends in Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon, but with Tyron Smith manning the left side on Vernon, much of the worry was on the other side with Collins versus Pierre-Paul. Crisis averted.
Collins had a few issues in the game, his run blocking wasn’t always the best and he did pick up a holding call, but Jason Pierre-Paul’s stat line read three solo tackles, two assisted tackles and one QB hit. That’s it. You have to give Collins some credit for shutting JPP out of the sack column, and frankly out of the QB pressure business for most of the game.
So enjoy this play where JPP decides to try an inside rush and gets rejected in the a very pleasurable moment.

Overall, Bryan Broaddus had this to say about Collins’ night.
You have to be impressed with the way that La’el Collins was able to stand up to Jason Pierre-Paul. I had my concerns about Collins in this game due to the ability that Pierre-Paul has to capture the edge. He is really a right defensive end playing on the left side, and any break down in technique could have spelled disaster. Other than the hold, Collins’ technique was solid. More importantly, he was able to finish his blocks and not allow Pierre-Paul to break him down.
Even a New York Giants’ site was aware of the the job Collins, and Tyron Smith, did on the night.
Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul looked dominant for the New York Giants during the preseason, but they were nowhere to be found against the Cowboys in Week 1.
Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith and right tackle La'el Collins completely shut them down. I know it's been a while, but that's what a dominant offensive line looks like -- especially at the tackle positions.
Aside from the one sack by Vernon, the defensive end duo struggled to get any pressure on Dak Prescott. Pro Football Focus handed Vernon one of the worst grades of Week 1 and his worst since joining the Giants. Pierre-Paul wasn't too far behind.
Bonus shoutout to Chaz Green, who also had a respectable start to his left guard career.
