BTB: Everything you need to know about the Randy Gregory situation

With respect to your statement about harder addictions, that's completely irrelevant unless the NFL stops suspending guys for using marijuana. He'll be just as unavailable as if he snorted coke or drank jet fuel. Doesn't matter. He gone.

You're right about the penalties, but I don't think that was his point. If Gregory's problem was just weed, or something stupid like that, his chances of not regressing are a lot better than if it were heroin or cocaine.

I read today that Randy applied for reinstatement anywhere from May 18th to the 20th. If true, this suggests a decision should be made sometime this week. When it might be announced is anyone's guess. Let's hope it's very soon.

Guideline is 60 days so I would hope a decision is coming this week. That said, Roger may need additional time to review the 2,000 pages Gregory submitted.

I don't like his odds. Guys with problems wash out more often than not in sports that test for their addiction.
Drug addictions are so much deeper than many realize. Drugs have ruined so many people with so much potential not to mention all the families and kids it has affected. If Gregory gets reinstated, there should be a clause in that he will be banned for life from the NFL the next time.

I can't beleive we are still talking about this 1 sack wonder 3 years after making the mistake of drafting him.

“Cocain is a hell of a drug”

Do you feel than anyone else in any occupation should be banned for life if the have a relapse with a drug or alcohol problem? Or just football? Would that also include anyone else hired by the NFL, teams and the such, or just players?

The dude is 3 years removed for the game? How was he keeping in "football" shape? Or did he even try to. I'm sorry, but he has had more then enough chances to clean it up and be who he was drafted to be. 14 games? That is all he has played in, which means even IF he gets reinstated, AND makes the cut, were dealing with what amounts to a rookie. I believe like most of JJ's stupid moves, this was nothing more then good money thrown on bad merchandise. All of us here hope and pray this guy has learned his lesson, and truly wants to come play football, I on the other hand believe, a leopard just doesn't change his spots. But that's just my opinion.....

IF I turned dope head, or decided I was "slick" and wouldn't get caught, but then did....well I wouldn't be getting a 3 year after thought chance to return to my JOB. Now is that a life long ban per say, no but it would be in the industry I work in. I'd have to go greet at a local wally mart store, as NO one would touch my butt. So I do agree with Hadenough....

I hope Randy Gregory gets his life in order. He seems like a really good dude.

But if there’s anything I’ve learned about who to keep and who to release in the salary cap era, one of the biggest things you look at is RELIABILITY. For whatever reason- injury, or suspensions, or personal problems, you cannot commit valuable cap space to a player who cannot be counted on to be there when needed. Regardless of talent.

David Irving has been here 3 seasons and by the time he returns from his second suspension in a season, he will have missed 16 games since 2015. Why in hades would you keep a guy that is a ticking time bomb for another suspension? Next time it will be 10 games! Gregory is in the same boat.

Using a real world example, if you owned a business and were paying good money to an employee that misses work over 1/3 of the time, you would probably not keep them around at a high cost if they are unreliable. Because being able to count on someone matters.

I hope the best for Gregory but I also hope all the chances are now behind him. Cowboys have to get past all of this non sense of keeping players who can't play due to being suspended. Guys know the rules there are no excuses for it. This is not just Gregory but others as well like Irving. in 2 season now Irving will end up missing 8 games due to stupidity, enough is enough.

He last played 1/1/17 against the eagles. Sacked Wentz.

IMO, this lack of player accountability is one reason the Cowboys have not been able to win meaningful games in two decades plus. Take David Irving- by the time he gets back from his latest suspension, he will have missed 16 games since 2015 for suspension or injury! That’s an entire season lost.

Lack of accountability in Big D starts at the top. When your GM and VP of Player Personnel literally have lifetime contracts, regardless of results, it creates an accountability problem that permeates the whole organization. If winning a SB is the goal, you get rid of everything that holds your team back from that goal. Jerry wants to win, but not at all costs. And he only uses accountability on assistant coaches- not HCs or “Star” players he doesn’t want to hold accountable.

I can't disagree. It is one thing giving a player a second chance. But when the second chances become 3rd and 5th chances it sends the wrong signal to the team.

Ok so then just HOW many sacks does RG have to his 14 games played? If I'm correct about this, and I believe I am.....he has exactly that ONE! Like I said above, he's still just a rookie, has no NFL clue how to beat an Oline man in the league....or play WITH his other front 3 to set picks and double teams....he just has been a waste of time and money. Do I wish him ill, absolutely not, I just don't see this team which has done NOTHING in over 23 yrs needing more nothing burger from a guy who if nothing else has shown to be a selfish little you know what.
