Ezekiel Elliott will play catch up but will be ready to go.

The Dallas Cowboys received a surprise this morning when the courts issued an administrative stay that will allow Ezekiel Elliott to play this Sunday versus the Kansas City Chiefs. The Cowboys had spent the week planning for Alfred Morris, Rod Smith and Darren McFadden to take the snaps in the upcoming game, but all those plans will now be put to the side. They may have to dust them off again if the future court rulings don’t go Elliott’s, and the NFLPA’s, way, but for now, the Cowboys are turning their attention towards getting Zeke ready to play in the game.

Jason Garrett said in a morning press conference that Zeke is back at work today and they have every expectation that he will practice today and play on Sunday. He’s already been in the offensive meetings this morning and he will spend extra time getting ready for Sunday.

While it is good news for the Cowboys on the field, there has to be a little disappointment from Alfred Morris, who will be kicked back to reserve, and Darren McFadden, who will likely be inactive again after spending all week preparing to finally see some action in 2017.

The Cowboys likely would have been productive with those guys filling in, but they probably wouldn’t have the full impact that Zeke provides.

It took a few games, but Elliott has looked recently like he did in 2016, when he led the league with 1,631 rushing yards. Against the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 8, he ran for 116 yards on 29 carries, with 85 yards coming in the fourth quarter. Against the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 22, he had 26 carries for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Against the Washington Commanders the following Sunday, he had 33 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns.

Add in his receptions and he has 505 yards from scrimmage on 91 touches, the best output for a three-game span in his first two seasons. He has accounted for 42 percent of the Cowboys' yards, the most of any player since Week 5, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.
