Of course he is a band aid, I don't think anyone has suggest otherwise, he is here on a 1 year deal making $358,200. Dallas is not ignoring OL, hell they drafted 1 in the 1st rd of this past draft. I'm sorry are we to drafted 4 or 5 OL so many here can whine about not drafting DT or some other position? Yes Peters is here to fill in for a player who is injured. Meantime Peters bring vet experience and showed last season he is still a decent player who should be able to come in and help out.

Wait. Signing a 40 year old OT isn't a long term fix?

Who woulda thunk it?

Did anyone think a 40 year old man was our future?

No

As far as WR goes, CD and Gallup, with Schultz will be very good. We will have to give Gallup some time, but how much of a commitment should we make for a WR to plug in for a handful of games?

We absolutely need to keep building the oline. One comforting, yet awkward thing is Philbin seemed to get more out of less in 2020. When he had more talent at his disposal in 21, he wasn't very effective.

This isn't a receiver. He usually only has to move about 2 steps either direction to be quite effective.

He’s taking so much of the pie Stephen because you didn’t sign him at 32 million. You had your chance and you blew it.

Not really sure what his has to do with my post.

I am not panning the signing of Peters. But this seems like a stupid article because I don't think anyone thinks a 40 year old OT is a long term solution along the OL.

The ownership has already started its annual whining about how that big QB contract forces them to lean on Prescott to elevate the receivers, the running game, the line, the defense, special teams, concession sales, the cheerleaders, and Rowdy on game day. Those offensive line issues just add one more thing to his plate as he will likely have to move around more than he would like just to avoid sacks. You would think that if your quarterback represents such a huge investment for the team, you would do everything you could to protect and assist him.

Forgive the bitterness spilling over. It is just unfathomable why two problems that faced the team in February are still the biggest ones going into the first game of the season. And don’t forget that Peters is being signed to the practice squad while he ramps up for the regular season. It’s understandable with a veteran like him wanting to wait until the last moment to sign a deal so he avoids camp, but the result is that we will initially see a starting offensive line featuring Tyler Smith at LT and Connor McGovern at LG.

Once you roll that out, the team has to decide if it is better to keep Peters in a backup role when he is ready to play, or move Smith back inside to guard where he got all his work before, and put Peters at left tackle. On paper, that looks like the strongest line, but asking the rookie to keep moving between positions is far from ideal. Hopefully injuries will not force their hand, but at least Peters offers a better option than Josh Ball or Matt Waletzko. Once he is ready to go, of course.

Just like with wide receiver, the team made their bed with personnel decisions regarding Amari Cooper and La’el Collins, both of whom are in starting roles with other teams. And then they took the cheap way out by relying on a journeyman, rookies, inexperienced second-year players, and UDFAs. Other teams use free agency to address glaring needs, but all we get in Dallas is talk about how much space that QB eats up, dry power, and pie, pie, pie. The team had months to try and find real cures, but instead are just trying to patch things up before they bleed out. Peters is a solid, and even possibly great, addition who will pay immediate dividends just adding veteran experience and mentoring for the young’uns. But he is not the cure for the ills that reside in the owners’ suite.

They drafted a LT.

They could not sign a quality starting free agent OT with Tyron Smith entrenched as the starter.

Even if they had cut Tyron, a quality free agent would require a multi-year contract. Why do that if they planned to draft a LT?

They rolled the dice that Tyron would play at the beginning of the season while Tyler learned the NFL game at LG.

I think they came up with a plan to sign Peters months ago. He wanted to stay in Texas where he lives. A 40 year old veteran OL probably did not want to go thru camp.

Summary: If Tyron stayed healthy for 4 games and they signed Peters as the Swing tackle, they would be all set.

Instead they'll likely roll with Tyler at LT for 1 or 2 games until Peters is ready to play.

Mod should bench those posters for a week........lol. Hell we let TWO starters WALK, another one can't stay on the field and just about every poster/fan wanna replace our center. Maybe it is time we should be honest and admit, that this OLine needs rebuilding.
agreed no context as if they were vital in our SB run, ooops..IMHO it was addition by subtraction all the payers not just AC and Collins, i mean Lamb leading WR and Steele played better last year during Collins suspension..yes it left soem holes but all teams fog through that.

I mean i agree with all the moves they made to get rid of those players all about overrated here IMHO

Zurliene -inconsistent, older , back issues, and cost a lot Maher really cant do much worse.

Gregory -TY Jerry for the very needed clause and Gregory for turning down that offer. 6 sacks A career high i like the guy's upside and energy but he like Collins was one infraction away from long suspension and while. not worth that deal he got..Folwer and Williams will make that up easily

Jarwin-cost too much oft inured etc Furgeson and Hendershot more than replace this guy heck Fergueson might be better than schultz so...

Collins oft inured or suspended cost too much for that risk hes one issue away from a yr suspension- Steele played better at RT while Collins was suspended remember the 6 game win streak, most was with Steele at RT, run game was better for sure. Peters ball and wally will also help the ine at soem point

AC- has that recurring foot issue, he didn't miss a lot of games but he sure went half speed a lot and was decoy when the foot flared up, many here said he disappeared a lot of the road and he didn't seem into games etc, could be out like he was last year with his "issues" ,22 mil was far too much for what he currently was bringing to the team.

Ced.Wilson-well i might have kept him but he was getting offers and might be overpaid when it counts and hes needing to move up tier and not have it as easy as he had it here with all the attention to the other guys. reminds me of other WRs who flashed here got paid elsewhere and never did much else Laurent Robinson, Austin, Alvin Harper others etc etc

Turner- well hes not much of loss on paper one of the young guys can replace his limited snaps.

what plan did GB and KC have after Adams and Hill were let walk lol didn't pear to have one at all going with a group of unproven or 2nd tier vets right now , better than ours i doubt that.,.Gallups coming back game 2-3...Gallup and Lamb are good 1-2...

BTW Peters is not bandage, hes a bridge to allow TS73 ease into the nfl a bit slower at LG vs LT and eventually wil be kicked out to lT. Next year is Tyrone doesn't retire he needs to play swing tackle. Its time.Im thinking ball or Wally will develop into the swing and possibly starting RT if the future. worse case scenario they get OL in the first round again. they did this before with Martin, Tyrone, and TFred.

now they will do so again. if Tyler works out , thats great if not LG and draft a LT..

A 40 year old dude on a one-year contract is always a band aid so I'm not sure BTB is breaking any news here.

Tyler Smith is charged with being the cure. We'll see. There are likely to be growing pains along the way.

Signing Peters IS a bandaid but he could be even more than that as well.

Cowboys should really fast track the OL reload and double down on talent acquisition this offseason.

Trade McGovern + 5th rounder for disgruntled Bears OL Teven Jenkins. Bears are in fire sale mode and Cowboys need to take advantage of teams like Bears (and Jets) to acquire up and coming young talent.

Gee, thanks for reminding us that the Cowboys should not build their OL around Peters, Capt. Obvious. We all freaking know It is a temporary fix.....and more like a tourniquet than a bandage. Gotta stop the bleeding first. But Smith will need to get through at least the first game at LT and McG at LG, so hope no serious damage occurs.

The answer was Eric Fisher....and it shows how really dedicated Jerry is about winning.

It's not like money wouldn't talk in this situation....

Jerry decided to play it cheap...and we the fans get to pay the price once again.

A bandage is temporary, but aren’t they ALL “emporary”?
