Charles Haley will get another chance at making the Hall in 2014.
The NFL announced the Hall Of Fame finalists for 2014, 15 former players, coaches and owners made the list. Included among the names is former Cowboy Charles Haley. Earlier today BTB profiled Haley in anticipation of this announcement, check out that article here. The shortened version is that the Cowboys of the early 90s would have never reached the success they did without Haley coming over in a trade from the 49ers. He was the missing piece, the disruptive force on defense that made sacking the quarterback his specialty. Of course, he came with baggage and was later diagnosed with bi-polar disorder which helped to explain his erratic behavior. This is his tenth year of eligibility to make the Hall and it's getting to be longer odds that he'll ever make it.
Jimmy Johnson was a semi-finalist but didn't make the cut for the finalists.
The full list of finalists:
Morten Andersen, Jerome Bettis, Derrick Brooks, Tim Brown, Edward DeBartolo, Tony Dungy, Kevin Greene, Charles Haley, Marvin Harrison, Walter Jones, John Lynch, Andre Reed, Will Shields, Michael Strahan, Aeneas Williams.
The newest Hall of Fame class will be announced on Saturday, Feb. 1st, right before the Super Bowl. It will be televised at 8 PM on Fox.
