The Pro Bowl selections were announced Tuesday and the Cowboys will have four player representing them in Honolulu.
The Dallas Cowboys didn't come up winners in 2015, but that didn't stop a few players from being recognized. On Tuesday, it was announced that four Cowboys players were selected to the Pro Bowl. Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, Travis Frederick, and Dan Bailey were all chosen.
For the second straight year, the Cowboys trio of first round offensive linemen made the squad. Cowboys left tackle, Tyron Smith is making his third straight appearance. The team gave him an eight-year deal worth almost $100 million and Smith continues to show why he's one of the highest paid LT's in the game. Smith has amazing hands and has done a great job fending off edge rushers. His strength allows him to handle the best defensive ends in the game and he's been a central part of the Cowboys running attack. He's the anchor of the offensive line and he's only 25 years old so there should be many more trips to Honolulu in his future before his career is over.
Second year player, Zack Martin is making his second straight appearance. After an impressive rookie season, the Cowboys guard continues to make his mark in the NFL. To make the Pro Bowl as a rookie is impressive enough, but to do it again is a notable feet. Martin is the sixth Cowboys player to reach the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons. He joins Emmitt Smith, Mel Renfro, Bob Hayes, Everson Walls, and Don Perkins.
The Cowboys center, Travis Frederick joins his buddies with his second straight selection. The front office got its fair share of criticism when they traded back in 2013 to select the big bruiser from Wisconsin. With two Pro Bowls now on his resume, he has more than validated himself as a top lineman in this league. Frederick has been a rock for the Cowboys as he's started every single game of his young, three-year career.
This fearsome threesome has helped the Cowboys remain in the top 10 in rushing yards despite all the struggles the team has had in the passing game.
But it wasn't just the big uglies that got the nod. Dan Bailey finally will get what's coming to him. The Cowboys fifth year field goal specialist has been lights out ever since he's taken over as the Cowboys' kicker. This season he's hit 28 of his 29 field goal attempts. And the kid's got ice water in his veins as he's hit all 19 of his go-ahead or game-tying field goals. Bailey is the most accurate kicker in NFL history so it's about time he gets a Pro Bowl invitation.
Despite having a great season, Cowboys linebacker, Sean Lee did not get selected. Lee has had one of his healthier seasons and as a result, he's posted career highs in tackles (138), sacks (2), and tackles for losses (9). Lee is an outside linebacker now, so he's in a tougher group to make the Pro Bowl as he has to compete with all the 3-4 OLBs who rack up all the sacks. If he can continue to play at this level and keep himself on the field, a Pro Bowl selection should be coming soon.
