The key thing about Ingram is he will be available. All of the reports say that he will not be tagged and they can't get a deal done. He'd slide right in on the right side and be the best pass rusher by far. I'm just curious how much he's going to get.

I know it's not going to happen, but sign Ingram and Berry.

Ingram 5 years, 58 million with 31 guaranteed.

Berry 4 years 42 million with 22 guaranteed.

They would be able to further address the DL with some cheaper options if they wanted or even the secondary. Some guys like Sheard, Logan, Hankins or Charles Johnson could fit well and not command a huge price tag. Garcon is probably out if the two above guys are signed, but maybe you could get him for 3 years 21 million due to age.

The bottom line is, the Cowboys could fill 2 massive holes on defense with reasonable contracts(for FA) and even further improve if they signed a mid tier guy on top of that. I know there's a lot of people completely against it, but getting both of those guys is not going to strain the cap like many suggest. There's just not a lot of guys worth re-signing to big deals the next couple of years and using this cheap QB window is paramount. If you can get a legit pass rusher and play making DB to build around, they should do it.

Alas, all will be for naught as the Cowboys simply struggle to fill holes with their bottom of the barrel and draft only style.

Yeah guys will just magically take less to be in Dallas. How is that hypothetical Berry contract market value? Honey badger gets 12 mil average and Berry is better than him. Stop it

He's 4 years younger than Berry(24vs 28) is. Maybe he gets a Mccourtey type deal. Spotrac has his value at 9.6 million. Bleacher report(where the numbers came from) has him at 4 years 41.2 with 21 guaranteed. I don't know exactly what he's going to get so I used other numbers from smarter people.

And miss me with that ********. If you want to converse, come correct or stay out of my inbox.

Agree with you
Our window is now
Give me Berry and Ingram or Logan/Hankins
The rest in the draft
Don't want to bring in too many FAs

It's Berry and it's not even close.

JPP is overrated and will get overpaid.

Maybe Short or Poe or even Bouye would be next on my list after Berry.

If you could have the Cowboys pursue one premium free agent, who would that be?

Once upon a time in an age of no salary caps, the Dallas Cowboys were allowed to go after any free agent they wanted. They made some key signings in the 1990’s that sent them over the hump and into three championships in four seasons. They signed legendary starters like Charles Haley and Deion Sanders. Those days are long gone and the Cowboys have changed their approach.

Throughout last offseason and this one, there has been an outcry for the Dallas Cowboys to go after a difference-maker on defense.

***snip***

Here’s one choice:

DE Melvin Ingram, 28, 6’2, 265 lbs, Chargers

Now in his fifth season, the defensive end was drafted by the San Diego Chargers with the 18th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He was a former linebacker from the University of South Carolina, who led the Gamecocks with 10 sacks in 2011, also tallying 15 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns.

In his rookie campaign, Ingram racked up 18 quarterback pressures which was second on the team. He was able to play in all 16 games that season and starting two of those contests. Though he only had one sack, he managed to have 41 tackles and a forced fumble.

***snip***

So, we leave the question to you, who would be the one guy you would chase after in free agency and make him a Cowboy?

Eric Berry. If I were in charge, he'd be one of those stories you hear of teams locking the doors and not letting a guy leave until a contract is signed. This guy is a game changer in the secondary and will allow us to focus even more on pass rush in the draft.

I think the the real question should be who we want at the price the market will demand.

In that event, I stay away from the top 20. I want a young guy that his team would love to keep but it was a numbers game.

However, I dont want a huge contract for some overrated, undersized one year wonder drafted in the 7th round three years ago who benefited from All Pro performance of the teammate playing on the opposite side.

I dont want an aged veteran with championship success in the past who is only signing to steal a lucrative contract to retire on.....a retirement that unoffially began the second he signed that contract.

Actually, the only players I think worth their market value are the former Cowboy players, I hope they sign Claiborne. I think he is a player on the verge that can stay away from future injuries with some luck. All these guys carry some type of baggage go with the one you already know can fit in the team chemistry.

And no more rehab projects either, just remind Jerry Jones he is not Dr. Phil.

i like Ingram. if we are only going to sign one significant FA, i'd be happy
plugs right in. then we sign most of our secondary, then draft magically
