We try something a little different and a little fun for a Saturday night.
Recently, one of our loyal readers wrote in and asked us to do an article a little off the beaten path here at BTB. He asked us to pick a movie quote that summed up our feelings about the Cowboys 2016 season. We aim to please, so we took on the challenge and here’s what we came up with. At the end, we’ll ask you to do the same in the comments.
Dawn Macelli: It's not personal, Sonny. It's strictly business. - The Godfather
The biggest thing to happen to the Cowboys this year is Dak Prescott ascending to the throne and Tony Romo being sidelined. This quote is perfect in that it’s all about business, and the business of the Cowboys is winning.
Tom Ryle: Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. - The Wizard of Oz
With Tony Romo now a backup, a fourth-round draft pick the starting quarterback, another rookie the leader in the clubhouse for MVP, the Cowboys now atop the power rankings while having the best record in the league, all on the heels of the disaster that was 2015, this season seems like we have been dropped by a tornado into a magical land. It all seems so unreal as we write daily about things we never imagined we would just three months ago. Now if we can just get to the end of the yellow brick road and see the Cowboys complete the quest.
VAfan: I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. - Casablanca
Dak and Zeke. What more can you say about the way they have helped transform the Dallas Cowboys? This last Sunday, with the game on the line, here's what Zeke said to Dak.
After Pittsburgh went up with 43 seconds to play, Zeke said he had a brief conversation with Dak on the sideline. pic.twitter.com/PXRgQuQlO5

Then they did it!
DannyPhantom: If you build it, he will come. - Field of Dreams
I've been preaching the "If you build it, he will run" chant ever since the Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott, so it is only fitting that this is my choice. The front office has made quite the investment into the offensive line ever since Jason Garrett has taken over and Zeke is just the guy to make it pay off. The running back who formerly wore number 21, Joseph Randle, was a headcase, but he was right when he said DeMarco Murray left too much meat on the bone. Zeke is plucking every bit of goodness out of those running lanes and the rookie running back is eating well.
Michael Sisemore: When you decide to be something, you can be it. That's what they don't tell you in the church. When I was your age they would say we can become cops, or criminals. Today, what I'm saying to you is this: when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference? - The Departed
Every single week, we see that Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are looking around at their opponents with a single focus. It's another game and another big task at hand. We hear the outside news that they shouldn't be winning this much in their young age. We hear that this is the next big test but they just keep checking boxes.
These two rookie sensations look at their next task and say "What's the difference?". Every game is big because they're now taking on the NFL.
Joseph.Hatz: Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There’s shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That, that’s about it. - Forrest Gump
This reminds me of the versatility and variation of the Cowboys on the offensive side of the ball. The offensive line can run inside zone, outside zone, and they are effective in man-blocking concepts, while Elliott has the power to run it inside, the speed to run it outside, he can get the tough yards, and has explosive chunk plays. The passing game can threaten opposing secondaries deep with explosive plays to Dez, in the short to intermediate with Beasley and Witten, and on designed passes and screens to Elliott. At quarterback Dak can sit back in the pocket and make plays like a traditional quarterback but he can also scramble and run read-option concepts effectively. That's about it.
One.Cool.Customer: I think a man does what he can, until his destiny is revealed. - The Last Samurai
My quote comes from a scene in The Last Samurai where samurai warlord Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe) is talking with Captain Algren (Tom Cruise) as they are working out the best way to fight against an enemy with superior numbers and superior weaponry. Katsumoto asks Algren if he believes a man can change his destiny. Here is the reply he gives: "I think a man does what he can, until his destiny is revealed."
I like this quote because I think it applies equally to Tony Romo and Dak Prescott. With Tony Romo relegated to backup QB for now, it may feel like his career is coming to a close, but I still believe that his "destiny" hasn't been revealed yet. At the same time, I think Prescott still has a long way to go before his destiny is revealed - he's done extremely well as a rookie in nine games so far, but can he keep up that performance in the post season and for the next few years?
Press on, refuse to be held down by your draft pedigree, your injuries, your backup job, your rookie status, whatever it is that's holding you down, and eventually your own destiny will be revealed to you.
Jim Scott: Valerie: "Bye-bye, kids!" Max: " Have fun stormin' the castle!" [sotto voice] Valerie: "Think it'll work?" Max: "It'd take a miracle" [full voice] Both: "Bye-bye!” - The Princess Bride
This season has been a fairy tale. All of the obstacles you could ask for, with games missed by starting LT, CB, DE, #1 WR, and, oh yeah, that QB guy. Yet the team keeps finding ways to win even though the castle gate is guarded by 60 men. It's an amazing story and I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Dave Halprin: We were young. We had momentum. We were winning. - Hot Tub Time Machine
Does that really need an explanation? I think this John Cusack quote from Hot Tub Time Machine basically sums up the effect Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott have had on the 2016 season.
Now we want to know yours. Hit up the comments and tells us the movie quote that encapsulates the Cowboys 2016 season and why.
