The team from which Clint Murchison stole our first QB has returned the favor by swiping the Cowboys top sack man from 2013.
In a move that will now make Tony Romo his primary target twice a year, former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl DT Jason Hatcher has signed with the Washington Commanders. The Washington Post is reporting that a deal has been reached with the man who led Dallas with 11 sacks last season. That total gave Hatcher more sacks than the entire Washington defensive line had during the season, and also outpaced Washington's primary "sack artist" Brian Orakpo, who chalked up 10 sacks on the season.
Hatcher will be moving back to a 3-4 defense as a defensive end in Washington, even though he had his breakout season in Dallas last year as a defensive tackle in a 4-3 defense.
The move is a good one for the Commanders, but Hatcher's new deal will not sit well with the Dallas faithful. While the odds were stacked against us seeing #97 in Dallas for 2014, we certainly had no desire to meet him on the field twice per season. It makes it tough to wish him all the best.
Hatcher's contract is reported to be a four-year deal worth $27.5 million, no details on guaranteed amounts available yet. Hatcher will turn 32 in July, and this is almost certainly his last NFL contract.
