Is Collins starting right when he gets back? Would think that he needs time to get up to speed but who knows
Maliek Collins returned to practice over a week ago and is working on getting into game shape.

He probably won't open the season as a starter, but it shouldn't be much of a wait.

Wait, so if Crawford starts at DT does that mean Collins is going back to the 1Tech?
Collins will probably be the third tackle in the rotation to open the season and see snaps at UT and NT.

It doesn't matter, Husker can play either spot in Rod Marinelli's defense.

That article states that we started the 2016 and 2017 seasons with 8 defensive linemen... that doesn't sound right to me. Don't we usually have like 10 or 11 at least?
Dallas opened last season with 8 DL on the roster in week one, but also had 2 LB/DE tweeners in Kyle Wilber and Jayrone Elliott, special teamers who could help if things got dire. The Cowboys finished the season with 10 DL on the roster.

Marinelli likes to rotate 8 DL during games if he has that many horses and injuries allow them all to dress. Keeping 10 Rushmen is preferred, but the number can go up or down depending on various factors throughout the season.

interesting.
I was thinking it'd be 10...but 8 or 9...I could see that.
an interesting cut battle to me is LB....if they keep 6...March-Lillard vs Covington...but they could keep both and go 7.

The reserves don't seem to be playing as much on special teams with the rules changes, we're seeing more corners and safeties.

I can see keeping six LBs, but it wouldn't bother me a bit to only go with five and keep one or two on the practice squad. There will only be two LBs on the field for the majority of snaps during the season, any fringe player hoping to make the cut needs to excel on specials to stake a claim.

There's no reason to go long at this position.

It is probably more of them thinking they get what they believe is their four best on the field. Crawford is not a personal favorite of mine, but I certainly prefer him at 3-T over Collins.
