What the heck is this guy smiling at? Maybe those trump cards worth $200,000 each he had been hiding in his sleeves.

Reports over the last week have been as much of a roller coaster as they were a few months ago. They're close, no, someone was exaggerating. It's about the revenue split... that's solved... wait, no it's not. Wait, yes it is. Everyone wants a rookie wage scale, no not that version, our version. Scale? I thought we were locked out? Ummm, yeah I've been working out.

The back and forth left bloggers and mainstreamers (note the order) in a constant state of fear of penning an article, only to have to follow it with one including mea culpas and mini-retractions. Now it seems that most everyone is feeling confident about forecasting an end to the stalemate within the first few days of next week. Here's the rundown of the reported .

-- Various members of the league's executive committee have been in the New York meetings for the last two days, including Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Yet another "news" article released based on a PFT article that impersonated a news article by quoting an off-handed guess made by another sports writer.

As for BTB .. yet another media source trades part of its reputation for a few beans .. er readers ..

Makes you wonder if this is where all of that money that was supposed to be going to retired veterans went ..

That 200k would have been nothing in the grand scheme. That certainly didn't make the owners shake in their boots.

and the premium for that insurance would be like $10 million dollars. UNION money. I kind of doubt that $10 million of union money could be spent and only have one or two people know about it.

Also as was reported that money would have had federal and state taxes at the highest rate deducted. So it would have been around $130,000 or maybe less depending on the state of residence. Now the guys at the bottom of the rosters, that would be enough for them. ANyone above? questionable in the extreme. Yes it would have bought more time but how much?

Sure it would. The owners best weapon was the threat to the players of not getting paid during the lockout. If each player can get 200k for the missed 2011 season then then owners had no leverage and the players could wait it out.

I'm wagering, since the league minimum was 325k in 2010, that about 10 players total under contract in the NFL could live on 200k for the 2011 fiscal year.

You're assuming that the players have zero money saved up and that spend everything they make.... and both are unlikely for most players.

These players were told to prepare for there being no season. That means, "save your money" and "spend less." Then if they did have lockout insurance that paid them $200k, it's a lot more than the zero they would have gotten if there were going to be no season.

it would be interesting to find out just how many players took serious precautions and how many blew it off.

Who cares who did what to who and even who won or lost. Open the camps and lets get some real football action. Start the league year already.

uhhhh i dont think 200k before taxes would make any player ok with waiting it out. If that is supposed to be like a last laugh type thing, I have one word:
