With La’el Collins kicking out to right tackle, perhaps the next man up at left guard is actually Chaz Green.
Tony Romo is the retirement that headlined the 2017 Dallas Cowboys offseason, but Doug Free decided to call it a career as well. This has produced a bit of a domino effect on how the Cowboys construct their offensive line - a problem they haven’t dealt with for a few seasons - and thanks to Tyrone Crawford’s Snapchat we might have more of the answer now.
Many fans celebrated when La’el Collins kicked out to right tackle. This has been something that many have felt was inevitable since Dallas hit the La’el lotto following the 2015 NFL Draft, but with La’el’s movement it begs the question... what’s going to happen at left guard?
There are a lot of votes for Jonathan Cooper, which would give the team essentially five-first rounders all across the offensive line, but so far the team has expressed a vote of confidence in Emmett Cleary. Perhaps the real answer isn’t either of these guys and is in fact a former option at right tackle - Chaz Green.

The Snapchat posting is actually a video where Tyrone Crawford is getting a massage (hence the caption). It initially begins displaying his face, but he flips the camera around to show the film that he’s apparently watching/studying during said massage.
As you can see these are clearly the Dallas Cowboys starters on offense. You can make out Tyron Smith, Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Terrance Williams in the grain of the screenshot.
The most interesting detail here is who’s lined up at left guard - Chaz Green (you can see his #79 when you zoom in). Of course, there are a lot of potential explanations for why Chaz Green would be lined up at left guard:
- Emmett Cleary was out for the play.
- Jonathan Cooper was out for the play.
- (Insert whoever else) was out for the play.
- Chaz Green is a legitimate candidate at LG for the Cowboys.
At first glance it’s a bit strange to see Chaz at LG considering he’s primarily been the swing tackle option for Dallas since he’s been here, but when you pair Tyrone Crawford’s Snapchat posting with something Jason Garrett said on Wednesday... it all does make a little bit of sense.
Jason Garrett says Chaz Green is athletic and smart enough to play other spots. Hmm.

Zack Martin recently said on an episode of AJ Hawk’s podcast that this was really the first time since he’s been here that the team is experiencing a high level of change along the offensive line. Both Doug Free and Ron Leary have been big parts of this unit for so long, adjusting to their absence’s requires some level of creativity.
Perhaps that creativity isn’t the predicted Emmett Cleary or Jonathan Cooper, but indeed the man who has actual experience in playing games with this unit. Chaz Green is a bit unexpected as the meat to the Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick sandwich, but if there’s anyone in the NFL who knows how to make an offensive line work... it’s the Dallas Cowboys.
