The second day of on-field workouts at the 2017 Combine feature QBs, WRs and TEs.
The on-field workouts at the 2017 NFL Combine continue on Saturday. The players participating today are a mixture of quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends.
The Cowboys could have interest in players from all three of these positions in the draft, some more pressing than others.
At quarterback, it’s no secret the Cowboys are set at starter after the amazing rookie season put together by Dak Prescott. But behind Prescott is a big question mark. Tony Romo will be gone from the team at some point in the offseason, and Kellen Moore and Mark Sanchez are free agents. Dallas would like to get a veteran free agent signed, but they could also dip into the quarterback pool late in the draft. Read Tom Ryle’s excellent piece on why they should do just that.
Wide receiver could be a much more pressing need, especially if the Cowboys lose Terrance Williams to another team in free agency. Brice Butler is also a free agent, this could open up a spot opposite Dez Bryant that the Cowboys will have to fill. A mixture of free agent signee plus draft pick could be the answer. The Cowboys could pick a WR very early in the draft depending on value.
Jason Witten is the Cowboys starting tight end in 2017, but after that is anybody’s guess. The tight end talent in this draft is deep, one of the best classes in a long time. This might be the perfect time for the Cowboys to find a true heir to Witten.
This is an open thread to discuss the combine.
