If you are looking for raw talent to mold, then Miami (OH) corner Quinten Rollins is your man.
Even more than Steven Nelson, Miami (OH) Redhawks cornerback Quinten Rollins stole the show in Mobile, Alabama. The former college basketball player was the most impressive cornerback at the Senior Bowl, and what is really getting NFL scouts excited is the fact that he only has one year of collegiate experience behind him. Rollins athletic gifts outshines his lack of of polished technique and provides a raw canvas for someone like Jerome Henderson to develop a player without having to correct years of poor habits.
While he may lack experience, Rollins projects an air of confidence, a critical tool for anyone looking to play cornerback in the NFL. He will be playing on an island every Sunday, and Quinten is not the type to back down from the challenge.
With only one year of college experience under his belt, Rollins has plenty of work to do with his technique and comfort on an island. But during one-on-one drills, he played with confidence and never backed down, showing athleticism, aggressiveness and the raw ability that could make him the top senior defensive back drafted. - Dane Brugler
I have often stated that with the coming of parity in the National Football League, the game was becoming more and more of a coaches league. With the addition of Quinten Rollins, Jerome Henderson will have an opportunity to prove that point. With the benefit of high-level coaching, this kid has the ability to become something special over his career. The best asset that Rollins has is the fact that he knows how raw he is, and is open to coaching
I'm a clean slate, I'm open to learning.... I got a lot to learn. Once I learnt that, the sky's the limit. In college, I really didn't have a system. I can come in and be open to the new skills they're going to teach me and go from there." - Quinten Rollins
Rollins learned the importance of taking the ball away on the basketball court, he ranks second in school history with 214 steals, and that carried over to the gridiron. He ranked third in the nation with seven interceptions in 2014. To that he added nine pass break ups and 72 tackles on his way to being named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year. Those numbers are impressive for any player, but for someone who had been away from football for four seasons and who was making his debut at the collegiate level they are astounding.
His ball skills that were developed as a point guard on the Redhawks basketball team have translated well to football. During the Senior Bowl, Rollins had arguably the catch of the game when he picked off a Bryan Bennett pass late in the third quarter. Some of that can be attributed to his time as a four-year letterman at wide receiver in high school.
One thing that is sure to impress Jason Garrett is that Rollins is also a leader. Twice in college he was named as a co-captain of the Redhawks basketball team. While he did not serve as a captain with the Redhawks on the gridiron, Quinten was three times a captain of his high school football team.
