Michael Gallup could be an intriguing option for the Cowboys.
Blogging The Boys will begin taking a look at some of the NFL Draft prospects that will be in the 2018 NFL Draft class. Some weeks, we will look at potential targets that will be within the Cowboys’ expected draft range. Others, we will highlight some of the elite members of the class.
The Senior Bowl is today, and there is a lot of talent that will be on the field in Mobile. Former Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen is one of the headliners of the class, but he isn’t the only prospect looking to make a name for themselves in front of NFL scouts, GMs, and coaches.
Many Cowboys fans are wanting the staff to continue building a defense that played very well over the latter parts of this past season. Jourdan Lewis, Chidobe Awuzie, and Xavier Woods look to be centerpieces in the secondary and Demarcus Lawrence is expected to be back in silver and blue. Another linebacker, pass rusher, run stuffer, or even another defensive back could help take this defense to the next level.
But, we have also heard the front office wanting to build around their franchise quarterback Dak Prescott. The return of Ezekiel Elliott will obviously help, but there are question marks on the offensive line and at receiever.
Could the Cowboys add a receiver in the first two days of the draft? If so, here is a name to keep an eye on.

Michael Gallup averaged over 16 yards per reception against Alabama in 2017.
Everyone has heard of Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk, and James Washington, but Michael Gallup is one of the most intriguing talents at the wide receiver position in this year’s draft class. The 6-foot-1 target developed from a JUCO prospect into one of the best at his position in all of college football.
Before Gallup became one of the best wide receivers on the collegiate level, he had to work himself up from the bottom. Gallup attended Butler (Kansas) Community College — the same JUCO that produced Cowboys star Demarcus Lawrence — for two seasons. The Georgia native had a solid freshman campaign in Kansas, where he recorded over 700 receiving yards and eleven touchdowns, but his sophomore season was cut short due to an ankle injury. The injury that cost the majority of his final JUCO season made some teams hesitant to recruit the incoming junior. Eventually, though, Gallup ended up at Colorado State — and the rest is history.
Michael Gallup burst onto the scene immediately in his first season on the D-1 level. The former junior college receiver became the Rams’ go-to target in Mike Bobo’s offense almost as soon as he stepped foot on campus in Fort Collins, Colorado.
In 2016, Gallup caught 76 passes for an eye-popping 1,272 yards and 14 touchdowns for Colorado State. He was named to the Mountain West’s first team all-conference squad after averaging over 16 yards per grab and began generating some draft hype for himself. After two seasons in JUCO and only one on the FBS level, Gallup came back to prove that he was one of the best talents at his position across the nation.
He definitely proved just that.
Gallup’s 2017 season now has him on not only draft radars, in the second, or even first round. The senior wideout was one of the best receivers in college football over the course of the 2017 fall. In 13 games, the he hauled in exactly 100 receptions for 1,418 yards and seven scores — that’s with defenses keyed in on him after his breakout 2016 campaign. Some of his best performances of the season came against Oregon State (11 catches, 134 yards), Hawaii (8, 212, one touchdown), Nevada (13, 263, 3), and Air Force (7, 161, 1). He also caught five passes for 81 yards against Alabama — good for 16.2 yards against one of the better defenses in the nation.
Gallup was named a consensus All-American and was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award — given to the nation’s top wide receiver. Safe to say, he definitely proved how good he was during his senior season.
As of now, Gallup is projected by many to be a day-two selection, but he has a chance to slip into the late first with a good week at the Senior Bowl practices, a strong combine, and with impressive interviews.
