NFL Lockout: Players Delay Vote; Issues To Be Worked Out

After the news of the owners approving a deal earlier tonight, comes the news that the player's are none too happy with what's transpired. DeMaurice Smith:

"Issues that need to be collectively bargained remain open; other issues, such as workers' compensation, economic issues and end of deal terms, remain unresolved. There is no agreement between the NFL and the players at this time."

More from Smith:

"As you may have heard," (DeMaurice) Smith wrote, "they apparently approved a supplemental revenue sharing proposal. Obviously, we have not been a part of those discussions."

How could something like this be overlooked? In these good faith negotiations, how could the negotiator for the players not be involved in a discussion of such import like a supplemental revenue proposal?...

Reaction to NFL owners voting for labor agreement

Reaction to the NFL owners voting in favor of a tentative 10-year agreement to end the lockout, pending player approval:

___

"Hopefully we can all work quickly, expeditiously and get this agreement done. It is time to get back to football. That is what everyone here wants to do." — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

___

"The league took a great first step tonight in terms of getting the lockout behind us and getting the season under way. Certainly, we have our fingers crossed that the players will also approve and we can get going." — Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt.

___

"I would be surprised if (the players) didn't ratify. That's really our hope, that they do. If they don't, we'll deal with that as it comes. But we certainly want to have a full preseason and (all the) preseason games." — Green Bay Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy...

The NFL looks close to getting back in business. Not yet, though.

The league announced Thursday that the owners voted to approve terms of a new 10-year collective bargaining agreement at their meeting in Atlanta, signaling that the end of a four-month work stoppage is near -- pending ratification of the deal by the players.

According to NFL Network, owners approved the new CBA by a vote of 31-0, with the Raiders abstaining. The NFLPA, who has yet to recertify as a union, reportedly met via conference call later Thursday but did not vote on the proposal.

It's uncertain when that vote will take place and whether the players will ask for more negotiation first.

Immediately following the owners' vote, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and other league officials held a press conference in Atlanta, discussing the proposal and tentative steps after joint ratification...

I didn't know the players were privy to how the owners share their money...

NFL Owners Approve New CBA (Updated)

Updated: According to Pro Football Talk, this deal is far from over. In an e-mail to the players, De Smith said that the deal the owners ratified differs from what was negotiated. So, back at square one…again. More to come…

Finally, we have some tangible progress in the NFL labor negotiations. The owners voted 31-0 today in approval of the new CBA. Not surprisingly, Al Davis abstained from the vote. That’s probably because he’s not actually alive. Also, rumor has that this deal has a “Jerry Clause”, which allows for some cap leniency for overpriced veterans.

Smith is lying. There is nothing in the deal that they did not agree to. That has been established. Mainly since every time someone asks anyone on the players side to point out what was not agreed on the only thing they can point to is revenue sharing- which is NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PLAYERS. Since that money is the OWNERS SHARE.

What does that have to do with the players?

Smith appears to be putting up road blocks instead of trying to resolve this.

I'm ready for this to be done so I don't have to hear from Smith for at least 10 more years.

I keep asking everyone what that revenue sharing has to do with the players and no one can find a reason.
