This week's Power Rankings see the Cowboys drop a few notches, but our sights are now set beyond this season.

Like the triangle said to the circle, this week's power rankings are "pointless". But we're going to power on through them, because even this is part of the process.

But in case of the Dallas Cowboys, that process now is all about 2016, and not 2015 anymore. Finish the season with some dignity and then it's "on to 2016".

This week's rankings for your reading pleasure.

Opinion-based rankings

CBSSports - No. 23 (+1)

I still think if they had Tony Romo all year, they'd be a deep playoff team. They didn't, and it's on to 2016.

Newsday - No. 24 (-4)

On to 2016

ESPN - No. 24 (+1)

Dez Bryant has caught 42.2 percent of his targets this season -- including one of six in Week 14 -- worst in the NFL. Matt Cassel is 16-of-42 targeting Bryant this season.

Washington Post - No. 26 (-5)

The Cowboys can’t even pretend to be NFC East contenders any longer. A dreary season winds down in nothing-to-see-here mode.

MLive.com - No. 27 (+-0).

We've said it before and we'll say it again -- just start Kellen Moore. It can't be worse than Matt Cassel.

Shutdown Corner - No. 27 (-5)

Good news: There's a Saturday night game this week. Bad news: It's with this unwatchable Cowboys team.

Foxsports - No. 29 (-6)

After a dreadful performance by Matt Cassel -- 114 yards passing, no touchdowns and an interception -- some Cowboys fans are starting to call for backup-backup quarterback Kellen Moore.

NFL.com - No. 29 (-3)

If ever there was a quarterback who could make 13 of 29 for 114 yards look uglier than 13 of 29 for 114 yards, it was Matt Cassel. The Cowboys signal caller endured a rough outing at Lambeau, taking the shine off what is usually one of the NFL's classiest matchups. There have been so many wonderful football games played between these two franchises over the decades. Sunday's wasn't one of them.

Bleacher Report - No. 29 (-3)

Sadly, the Dallas Cowboys aren't eliminated from playoff contention yet because they play in a division led by two 6-7 teams. But they tried really, really hard to fade from the 2015 NFL season forever by allowing 230 rushing yards at 5.2 per carry during a loss to the Green Bay Packers.

USA Today - No. 29 (-1)

Dez Bryant has been targeted 21 times in the last three games but only hauled in six catches for 97 yards.
Stat-based rankings

FiveThirtyEight - No. 16 (+1). Elo ratings are a simple system that estimates each team’s skill level using only the final scores and locations of each game.

Sagarin Ratings: No. 22 (-2). These are rankings based on W/L record, points differential and schedule strength.

Teamrankings.com - No. 24 (-3). This site measures the relative strength of all teams using team performance, home/away status, margin of victory and other factors.

Coldhardfootballfacts - No. 27 (-3). This indicator ranks teams based on their average ranking across a range of CHFF's Quality Stats.

BeatGraphs.com: No. 27 (-2). BeatGraphs provide rankings that cannot be defeated by a chain of A beat B beat C scenarios. In the end, when all ambiguity is removed, if A has beaten B, A will be ranked above B.

Numberfire - No. 28 (-3) These rankings are based on expected point differential against a league average team. If the team's rating is 10, they would be expected to win by 10 points against a league-average opponent.

Oddsshark: No. 29 (-3). Oddsshark use a multitude of stats to establish an offensive and defensive power ranking, which they then adjust for the strength of schedule.
