The latest collection of power rankings does not bode well for the Dallas Cowboys.
Here's a look at the Dallas Cowboys and NFC East power rankings heading into Week 8 of the 2015 NFL season.
Opinion-based rankings
Shutdown Corner - No. 18 (19)
Here's the positive: The offensive line showed up. The running game looked good. The defense played pretty well. These things weren't really clicking before this week, in the games since Tony Romo's injury. If the Cowboys get more of that before Romo comes back, maybe Romo will actually have something to come back to.
USA Today - No. 19 (21)
Who's to say Greg Hardy didn't offer some really helpful suggestions to Dallas' struggling special teamers? (Riiiiight.)
CBSSports (Kirwan) - No. 20 (16)
So Matt Cassel wasn't the answer, which leads me to believe the Cowboys won't get right until Tony Romo and Dez Bryant get back in the lineup. The way the division is going, they might still have a chance if they can find a way to win a couple games before then.
ESPN - No. 20 (16)
Seven giveaways, zero takeaways and 30.5 PPG allowed by the Cowboys during their four-game losing streak. Games against the Seahawks and Eagles the next two weeks could decide the Cowboys' season.
Foxsports - No. 21 (16)
The offensive line is back to its 2014 form thanks in part to the promotion of rookie La’el Collins. Running back Darren McFadden has emerged as the lead back, and he’s looking more like the player we saw during his dominant 2011 season with the Raiders. If Matt Cassel can cut down on the turnovers until Tony Romo returns, the Cowboys have the other pieces in place to make a run for the NFC East.
Newsday - No. 21 (17)
Matt Cassel can't do any better than Brandon Weeden, as the Cowboys drop their fourth straight game in Tony Romo's absence. And now Greg Hardy creates more controversy with a sideline shouting match with Dez Bryant and the Cowboys' special teams coach. What a mess.
Bleacher Report - No. 21 (19)
Cassel isn't the answer Dallas is looking for. That will only come once Romo is healthy.
NFL.com - No. 22 (21)
The new man under center made a few plays -- including tossing a perfect ball on the run for a touchdown to Devin Street -- but the Cowboys could not overcome three interceptions, or a couple of major special-teams miscues by the kick-coverage units and Blonde Rambo. Tell you what: That Dallas defense allowed just 13 points. Looks different.

Brandon Weeden didn't work out and Matt Cassel tossed three interceptions in his Dallas debut. Come on Cowboys, just throw Kellen Moore out there and let's see what happens.

It's a shame what losing a quarterback like Tony Romo has done to this team. At least Greg Hardy is trying to fire up his teammates. Yeah, sure he is.

No one should be too surprised the Cowboys have come completely undone without Tony Romo.

FiveThirtyEight - No. 14 (12). Elo ratings are a simple system that estimates each team’s skill level using only the final scores and locations of each game.
BeatGraphs.com: No. 16 (6). Interesting take from BeatGraphs, who provide rankings that cannot be defeated by a chain of A beat B beat C scenarios. In the end, when all ambiguity is removed, if A has beaten B, A will be ranked above B.
Teamrankings.com - No. 19 (13). This site measures the relative strength of all teams using team performance, home/away status, margin of victory and other factors.
Sagarin Ratings: No. 19 (15). These are rankings based on W/L record, points differential and schedule strength.
Massey-Peabody - No. 19 (20). These guys generate their predictions by working up from play-by-play data to calculate a performance figure for rushing, passing, scoring and play success.
Coldhardfootballfacts - No. 21 (15). This indicator ranks teams based on their average ranking across a range of CHFF's Quality Stats.
Numberfire - No. 21 (17) These rankings are based on expected point differential against a league average team. If the team's rating is 10, they would be expected to win by 10 points against a league-average opponent.
