All roster cuts are in. here are eight players that might garner some interest from the Cowboys.
With roster cuts in, it’s going to be very important to keep an eye on the free market. The Dallas Cowboys are always churning the bottom of the roster and you never know when you might hit on a guy or two.
Will McClay has said multiple times that as soon as he meets a player, he lets them know that no matter how fond he is of them, he’s always looking for their replacement. The Cowboys made their cut down to 53 on Saturday but it certainly isn’t likely to be the final roster. Dallas will be very active and have already started:
The #Cowboys have traded a late-round conditional pick for #Bengal CB Bene Benwikere, source said. Some depth there.

Looking around the league, there are a few names that may be interesting to keep a look out for. There are likely to be a lot of moving and shaking before teams prepare for week one. Who were the more interesting names now looking for homes?
OT Cyrus Kouandjio - cut by Lions
Kouandjio fits the high-draft status with little production that we’ve seen this organization take a chance on. He’s a long and massive athlete that had first-round consideration. He fell to the Bills at 44th overall in the 2014 draft due to injury concerns and rawness. He spent three seasons with the Bills but only started 7 of 25 games. He played in 12 games in 2016 after an early ankle injury to start the year.
Cyrus suffered a hip injury at his home in January of this year. He also had a strange encounter with Police in April where he was found with little clothes on in a field and first-aid was administered. He was released a month later and picked up by the Lions before camp.
DL Xavier Cooper - cut by Browns
He was drafted 96th overall by the Browns in 2015, he’s played in 27 of 32 potential games with two starts. NFL Draft Zone’s and Cowboys UK member Dan Turner was high on his potential as an under tackle:
Don't know how Cooper has played since being drafted, but he looked an ideal, prototypical Cowboys 3T when I evaluated him pre-draft https://t.co/b2dTiVuQDV

Cooper is the kind of twitched-up pass rusher that this team usually likes but he’s not considered very versatile.
DT Will Sutton - cut by Vikings
Sutton was a former favorite of BTB’s during the 2014 NFL Draft. He was drafted 82nd overall to the Chicago Bears. He’s started 18 of 36 games he’s played in three season. He has 60 tackles and seven pass deflections.
Sutton injured his ankle in week 10 of 2016 and the Bears placed him on injured reserve. He was cut by the Bears in May and picked up by the Vikings. Sutton is very athletic for his size and had outstanding sack production (20.5) in college. He can be somewhat of an underachiever and that’s likely why he’s out there. If the motor isn’t right, the Cowboys may look the other way.
G Jeremy Zuttah - cut by Ravens
This is a story about a vested veteran, one who the Ravens traded to the 49ers earlier in the offseason. When the 49ers released him a few weeks ago, the Ravens picked him back up. Now, Zuttah has been cut by the Ravens due to them acquiring Tony Bergstrom from the Cardinals.
Zuttah is in his 10th season, he was drafted by the Buccaneers in the third round of the 2008 Draft. He’s started 117 out of the 131 games he’s played, including 16 starts last season for Baltimore and a Pro Bowl nod. If the Cowboys’ aren’t sold on what they have at left guard, Zuttah is one heck of an insurance policy. Since he’s a 10-year veteran, he’s free to sign with any team.
DT Caraun Reid - cut by Chargers
He was a former fifth-round pick in 2014 for the Lions. Reid is a great fit as a nose tackle and that’s where he’s had his most success. He was waived by Detroit last year and picked up by the Chargers. He’s coming off a torn ACL that he suffered in week seven of last year.
He’s a very quick athlete with good penetration and can be extremely disruptive. For his career, Reid has 12 starts, all in 2015, 36 tackles and three sacks. Reid also has two defensive touchdowns to his name.
LB Scooby Wright - cut by Cardinals
Wright was a third-round consideration that fell all the way to the seventh round in 2016 to the Browns. Cleveland snuck him to their practice squad but he was poached by the Cardinals. He made two tackles in three games played.
Wright was highly touted by some scouts as the next Zach Thomas but had some injury concerns. He has elite instincts but has issues controlling his energy. Wright had elite production in college and won tons of awards including the Bronko Nagurski and Chuck Bednarik awards.
S T.J. Ward - cut by the Broncos
Ward has played strong safety for the Broncos over the last three seasons and he will have suitors calling. Ward is already a rumored target for the Pittsburgh Steelers and he’ll be free to sign anywhere. The Cowboys are more likely to stay pat at safety but Ward is interesting.
He has over 500 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and eight interceptions over his eight years in the league. He started 14 games last season, had 87 tackles, three forced fumbles, a sack, and an interception. Again, he’s not likely to be a Cowboy but lots of teams will be interested in the Pro Bowler.
LB Sean Spence - cut by the Colts
Spence was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He’s only missed two games in three years. He has made 19 starts in that time with 144 tackles, five sacks, and forced fumble.
The Cowboys have maintained that they will stay in-house at linebacker but Spence isn’t a bad option if they get concerned with their depth.
These are just a few of many names that are out there as of right now. What about you? Do you think there are any guys you would be interested in bringing onto the roster?
