Here are your starts and sits for week 7 of NFL action.
It’s that time again. Here are your fantasy start and sits for Week 7.
NOTE: This is a list of players who are on the bubble when it comes to deserving a starting spot for the week. Obvious choices won’t be mentioned, and likewise - some under-the-radar guys, will. Advising you to start Tom Brady offers no value to you as a fantasy owner.
Must Start Players
QUARTERBACK
Andy Dalton, CIN vs. Browns
Dalton has scored 44 points in his last two contests against solid defenses and now gets the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland has already surrendered 16 touchdown passes to opposing quarterbacks this season and have averaged giving 22+ points per game. Let the red rifle loose this weekend, he shouldn't disappoint.
Kirk Cousins, WAS vs. Lions
Cousins hasn't been near the fantasy player he was last season but expect that to change this week. The Lions are getting obliterated by passing offenses, surrendering the most points to opposing quarterbacks this season. If Case Keenum can drop 30+ points on Detroit, Cousins should be able to have a great outing.
RUNNING BACK
Melvin Gordon, SD vs. Atlanta Falcons
Yes, I realize he is coming off his absolute worst showing with less than 10 points in their win over the Broncos last week. Still, the Falcons are a great place for any running back to redeem themselves. Atlanta is allowing, on average, 21 points per game to opposing running backs. Let Gordon run wild on the dirty birds!
Jacquizz Rodgers, TB vs. San Francisco 49ers
Don't expect Rodgers to get 35 carries again as he did last week but he's the man in Tampa right now. Doug Martin has already been ruled out with another setback. Rodgers is the physical runner that Tampa likes to use to get their offense going. The 49ers are giving up the second-most points to opposing runners and Rodgers is a perfect storm for their leaky defense.
WIDE RECEIVER
Julian Edelman, NE vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Though Edelman has been in sort of a slump, this week presents the ultimate situation for him to rise back in the receiver rankings. Pittsburgh's secondary has ranked among the worst in football this season and the cornerback that'll likely be covering Edelman, Sean Davis, is graded 99 out 112 qualifying cornerbacks by Pro Football Focus. If ever there were a time for Edelman to get right, it's Sunday.
Jeremy Maclin, KC vs. New Orleans Saints
When you talk about historically bad pass defenses, the New Orleans Saints have set records in that category. After giving up 38 points to the Carolina Panthers, they get the Kansas City Chiefs. Though Maclin didn't make the best of his matchup against the Raiders last week, look for a bounce-back performance against the Saints, who have allowed a combined 502 receiving yards and 52 points to receivers in two road games this season.
TIGHT END
Jack Doyle, IND vs. Tennessee Titans
Dwayne Allen has been the ultimate disappointment this season but Doyle has come out of this as the winner. His targets have gone up with each week and especially in the red zone. With the Colts ailing at receiving threats, Doyle has stepped in admirably and even scored a touchdown on the Texans' defense that has been stingy to tight ends this season. The Titans are giving up the 13th-most points to tight ends and expect Doyle to have a score in this one.
Julius Thomas, JAX vs. Oakland Raiders
After scoring a combined 4.1 points in the past two contests, this is the last ride for Julius Thomas. If he can't produce against a Raiders team that is allowing the third-most yards (425) and seventh-most points (9.7 per game), then it's an effective time to replace him.
DEFENSE
Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets
The Jets have been turning the ball over with reckless abandon, until proven otherwise, start anyone who is facing them each week. The Jets have given up an average of 12.2 points to opposing defenses. No matter if Geno Smith is on or not, this Jets offense is bound to give a few away.
Take A Seat, Sucka
QUARTERBACK
Carson Wentz, PHI vs. Minnesota Vikings
Just a few weeks ago, Wentz was in the running for Rookie of the Year, oh how the mighty have fallen. In two weeks since the bye, Wentz has averaged 12.2 points per game. Minnesota has only allowed 13 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. This is a brutal matchup for the rookie.
Carson Palmer, ARI vs. Seattle Seahawks
Palmer has dealt with health issues and consistency problems this season and wouldn't expect that to get much better against Seattle. Though he's had one good outing against them in the past, on average, he scores about 16 points per contest.
RUNNING BACK
Matt Forte, NYJ vs. Baltimore Ravens
Forte has been on an incredible downward slide since the Jets have continued to drop games. He used to be on the field for 79% of the snaps and now it's down to 53%. He's scored only 6.5 points or fewer in the last four games. The Jets have started using Bilal Powell a lot more and Forte just hasn't been effective.
Frank Gore, IND vs. Tennessee Titans
From one former fantasy star to the other, don't be sucked in by Gore's 100-yard performance against the Texans last week. The Titans are sixth in fantasy points allowed to running backs and have only averaged giving up 3.85 yards per carry and 88 yards per game.
WIDE RECEIVER
De'Andre Hopkins, HOU vs. Denver Broncos
For a lot of fantasy owners, it'll be hard to sit Hopkins on Sunday. Well, you better sit him because he's going up against a defense that has held receivers in check all season long. T.Y. Hilton (4.1), A.J. Green (7.1), Mike Evans (5.9) and Julio Jones (2.9) have put up diddly against the Broncos. Look anywhere but this game to get receiving performances.
John Brown, ARI vs. Seattle Seahawks
Brown has been a slow starter to the year and he just doesn't look right. Each week, you hope that Palmer will find him deep and nothing. The Seahawks have held him completely in check in four meetings with zero touchdowns and less than 65 yards per game.
TIGHT END
Coby Fleener, NO vs. Kansas City Chiefs
After going off last week for 19.6 points and two touchdowns, he's not likely to have a great outing this week. The Chiefs have stifled tight ends giving up a 4.4 point per game average to tight ends. The Chiefs have only surrendered one score by a tight end this season and the sixth-fewest points per game.
Zack Ertz, PHI vs. Minnesota Vikings
Ertz has been a disappointment once again this fantasy season. He's scored less than six fantasy points in the past two games combined. The Vikings haven't given up a single touchdown to opposing tight ends and wouldn't expect Ertz to be the guy to buck that trend.
DEFENSE
Pittsburgh Steelers v.s. New England Patriots
The Patriots have been on a tear since Tom Brady has been back in the lineup. They have only allowed a combined four points to defenses in two games. The Steelers are no longer the "Steel Curtain" and you can bet that Brady is going to carve this week defense up.
