The Cowboys secondary will look different on Sunday in Denver.

Orlando Scandrick fractured his hand during the Cowboys win over the New York Giants in Week 1. In his immediate comments after the game, Jerry Jones said he thought Scandrick could play through it.

Whether he can or not, Orlando Scandrick is officially out for Sunday’s Week 2 date in Denver.

Scandrick isn’t the only player in the Cowboys secondary who appeared on Friday’s injury report. Byron Jones was there for the second day in a row and was officially listed as questionable, as was wide receiver Terrance Williams.

For what it’s worth, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Byron Jones said that he’ll play. Terrance Williams was injured on the game’s first play last week, but he did play through it (and played well) so it makes sense to be optimistic.

Scandrick’s absence is certainly one of note as he’s far and away the most tenured player in the secondary. Rookie third-round pick Jourdan Lewis is expected to make his debut, giving the Cowboys some fresh faces in the back of the defense.

The Cowboys will be relying on that re-shuffled secondary to lock down two prominent receivers on the Denver Broncos in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. Anthony Brown, who has the only interception on the season for the team, and Nolan Carroll will no doubt be carrying the unit as the Cowboys look to improve to 2-0.
